  • 5/10/08 Short Night for Long at Darlington; Looks Ahead to Lowe's: Photo: TheHotLap.com Carl Long would qualify his #46 Southeastern Outdoor Products/Red Line Oil Dodge 35th for the NASCAR Nationwide Series Diamond Hill Plywood 200. However, during his 2nd lap of qualifying, he would smack the wall off of turn 2 causing quite a bit of damage to the #46 Dodge. During the race, the handling would fall off quickly due to the damage. Long could barely hang on and would be forced to the garage on lap 9 of the 147 lap race, finishing 40th. Now, Long and the Carl Long Racing team look ahead to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Showdown on May 17th at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. Long will pilot the #46 Romeo Guest Construction Dodge in hopes of advancing into the Sprint All-Star Race. You can vote at NASCAR.com and on your Sprint and NEXTEL phones.

  • 2/19/08 No Luck for Long at Daytona: Carl and son Dane During Thursday's Gatorade 150, Long was able to hang with the pack and had managed to move all the way up to 15th place. However, the fortunes of racing did not hold well for Long as he was caught behind Kurt Busch's slowing car on lap nine. This caused Long and his Millstar / Rhino's Energy Dodge Charger to lose the draft, which of course is fatal in restrictor plate racing. Losing the draft coupled with ignition difficulties and rear spring mounting issues soon put Long a lap down to the field. Ironically, the rear spring issues that caused the car to slow also caused the car to be disqualified by NASCAR based on car height at a post race inspection. "Once we got bottled-necked behind Busch and lost the draft, I didn't really get too concerned. I knew from experience that their would be a few cautions that would enable us to catch up" stated Long "Unfortunately, the next caution didn't come out until lap 56 of the 60 lap race. We were a lap down and the NASCAR "Lucky Dog" procedure doesn't occur with less than ten laps to go". ►Full Story...

  • 2/11/08 Daytona Single-Car Practice & Qualifying: Click for more photos Carl Long finally got the chance to hit the high banks this past Saturday and Sunday for Daytona 500 single-car practice and qualifying at Daytona International Speedway. Carl Long put up the 52nd fastest lap of the Saturday morning practice session, at 180.945 mph or 49.739 seconds around the 2.5 mile oval. In the evening session, Long improved his speed to 181.163 mph, or 49.679 seconds, the 50th fastest time of the round. On Sunday during single-car qualifying, the wrong setup under the car caused the #08 Millstar Tools / Rhino's Energy Drink Dodge to bottom out on it's second qualifying lap, causing Long to lose precious speed and generate a disappointing 53rd fastest qualifying lap of the day. The bottoming out was attributed to NASCAR's lower mandated tire pressure numbers that were not compensated for.

The chance to be in the Daytona 500 is still very much in-reach for Carl Long and EM Motorsports. The Gatorade Duel at Daytona qualifying races will be held this Thursday. Since Carl qualified in an "odd" number position (53rd), he will be racing in the first Duel race. This qualifying race will give the team a final chance to earn a spot in the Daytona 500 field. Carl Long must be among the top two highest finishing teams, not already locked in the field, at the end of the 150-mile qualifying race in order to land a spot in the big show. EM Motorsports will be able to test how well their car can race this Wednesday where two rounds of drafting practice will be held.

Tune into SPEED Channel at 2:00 PM Eastern on Thursday to watch Carl Long race the #08 Millstar Tools / Rhino's Energy Drink Dodge into the field of the 2008 Daytona 500!

  • 11/9/07 Late Model Report: RACE POSTPONED Carl Long competed in this year's Orange County Speedway Championship race last weekend at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC. Carl was the 2006 defending champion of the 300-lap race. After starting 2nd, Long had a stellar race going in his #22 Long Brothers Racing Ford. However, fierce battling all race long made the handling on Long's Ford go away in the late stages of the race, losing sight of the leaders. Carl Long finished a respectable 3rd at the end of the day.

Carl Long is not scheduled to run any of the remaining races left in the 2007 Cup, Busch, or Truck Series seasons. The next scheduled event for Long will be another Late Model race, this time at Southern National Raceway Park in Kenley, NC for the running of the Thanksgiving Classic on November 25th.
11/28/07 UPDATE: Due to rain, the Late Model race at Southern National Raceway Park has been postponed until Sunday, December 2nd. Carl and his #2 Romeo Guest Construction Ford will start from the 13th position.

  • 10/23/07 Memphis Next for Long, Fridel-Carter: Photo: Jayski.com After failing to qualify for the NEXTEL Cup race, and developing a miss in the engine early on in the Busch race last time out at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Carl Long hopes to sing a different tune when the NASCAR Busch Series invades Memphis Motorsports Park this coming weekend. • 9/27/07 Flat Foils Solid Run at Dover: Photo: Lisa Carroll A late-race flat tire cost Carl Long and Carter 2 Motorsports a chance at a top 25 finish in their Busch Series debut at Dover International Speedway. The afternoon started out bumpy for Long and the #54 team. Long was involved in the first caution of the day on lap 7 when #6-David Ragan spun and impacted the wall, collecting #30-Stanton Barrett in the process. As Ragan came down the track, Carl locked up the brakes and spun his car around, miraculously missing the #6 car and everyone else. The Carter 2 Motorsports crew put on four new tires and sent Carl back out on the track. Carl kept the #54 Dodge on the lead lap through much of the first half of the race til a long green flag run set the team a lap back as the race passed the halfway point. With the #54 Dodge sitting in a comfortable 26th place as the race reached 80 laps to go, Carter 2 Motorsports looked well on their way to a solid finish if luck continued to sway their way. On lap 125, Carl and #14-Kyle Krisiloff made contact in turn two after being in a heated battle for position. The contact cut the left front tire of Carl Long's Dodge. The team came down pit road and put on fresh left-side tires. Unfortunately, the green-flag pit stop regulated Long four laps back behind the leader, ultimately ending any chance for a top finish. After evaluating their position in what was already a wrecked-filled race, the team elected to call it a day and save their car for the next race. The #54 Carter 2 Motorsports Dodge finished 33rd at the end of the 200-lap RoadLoans.com 200 at Dover. Carl wanted to send out a special thanks to Dom Turse, Darren Carroll, Charlie Love, Jeff Fluharty, and Chick Azoff for their generous help over the weekend. The group worked with Carl back in 2004 and 2005 on the former McGlynn Racing #00 team.

  • 9/18/07 Sour Finish for Long at Salem: Photo: Tom Czerwinski In a last-minute driver change this past weekend, Carl Long found himself on the road to Salem, Indiana to drive the #48 Carter 2 Motorsports Dodge in the ARCA RE/Max series race at Salem Speedway. The weekend started out on a sour note when Long's car did not pass tech inspection in time to make a qualifying attempt. Fortunately, the team picked up the last spot in the field on a provisional. However, the race did not fair much better for Carl Long and the team. After making steady progression up to the front, trouble struck once again. On lap 69, Carl got caught up in an accident that caused significant damage to the front end, ending the afternoon for Carter 2 Motorsports. The #48 FreeFeds.org Dodge wound up a frustrating 31st place finish after a very rough weekend.

Up Next: Carl Long and Carter 2 Motorsports will debut their NASCAR Busch Series program this weekend in the RoadLoans.com 200 at Dover International Speedway on September 22nd. Carl Long will be at the helm of Carter 2's #54 Dodge [note the number change for this weekend only].

  • 9/13/07 Engine Trouble Spoils Race for Long at Chicago: Photo: Tom Czerwinski Carl Long and Carter 2 Motorsports had high hopes coming into the ARCA RE/Max Chicago 200 at Chicagoland Speedway last Saturday. Coming off a top-10 finish at Gateway and posting a strong 14th place qualifying effort at Chicagoland on Friday, another top-10 finish seemed highly within grasp. The first 25 laps of the race were stellar, staying consistently in the top 15 on the rundown. Troubles during an early pit stop regulated Long back to the end of the pack. Long came in for a second time under that caution to check that all lug nuts on the #48 FreeFeds.org Dodge were tight, as Carl had felt a vibration while pacing. After a later caution, the team elected to stay out as the vibration that Carl felt had diminished. The day would come to an end on lap 56 when Long's car did not come up to speed on the restart. Carl radioed to the crew that he felt he lost a cylinder. Long came to pit road under green to the attention of the crew. Loud clanking was heard from underneath the hood of the #48 Dodge. The crew assessed that a spark plug had come completely out of one of the cylinder heads. Knowing that it would take numerous laps to replace the plug, the team elected to call an end to the afternoon as a good finish had gone out the window. Carl Long and the #48 FreeFeds.org Dodge would finish a disappointing 32nd place in the ARCA RE/Max Chicago 200 at Chicagoland Speedway.

Up Next: Plans are for Carter 2 Motorsports to have their NASCAR Busch Series entry ready to run the RoadLoans.com 200 at Dover International Speedway on September 22nd. Carl Long will be at the helm of Carter 2's #46 Dodge.

  • 9/2/07 Long Claims Top 10 at Gateway: Photo: ? Carl Long's return to ARCA racing was an impressive one Friday night, crossing the checkered flag in 10th place at the end of the ARCA Re/Max Series Gateway 150 at Gateway International Raceway. Long dodged a number of bullets in his #48 FreeFeds.org Dodge throughout the 120 lap race, including the biggest wreck of the night when #25-Ryan Fischer on lap 62 rolled his car on the backstretch after getting airborne and smashing into the catchfence, causing a red flag. Carl's Carter 2 Motorsports Dodge was just 3 cars behind the initial contact of the frightening wreck. Long quickly dived to the bottom of the track and looped his car around in the grass, miraculously only sustaining minimal damage. After making a couple of pit stops for tires and minor repairs, the #48 FreeFeds.org Dodge was back on track and competitive. As the race went back to green, Long picked up a number of positions the last 30 laps of the race to record a 10th place finish in the event.

Team Best: The 10th place finish at Gateway was the first top 10 finish for Carter 2 Motorsports in their history of ARCA competition.

Carl Long History: The last time Carl Long competed in an ARCA Re/Max Series race was over 7 years ago in May of 2000 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Long started 5th and finished 6th in the #41 Mansion Motorsports Ford. As some long-time fans may recall, that was the weekend before Carl qualified for the 2000 Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race, and was the fuel that sparked Carl's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup career.

Up Next: Carl Long will be back ARCA Racing once again next weekend at Chicagoland Speedway for the Chicagoland ARCA 200, where Long will continue to pilot the #48 FreeFeds.org Dodge for Carter 2 Motorsports. • 4/28/07 Carl Long Claims 2nd Place at Concord: Photo: Ken Childs Carl Long ran a fantastic race all evening at Concord Motorsport Park, displaying his finest short track driving skills. After qualifying 10th, Long stayed ahead of the trouble throughout the entire race, steadily moving closer to the front of the pack as the race progressed. With about 60 laps remaining in the event, Carl found himself in the 2nd position. Carl had been fighting a loose condition that made him lose traction on the restarts after caution periods, losing valuable time in the process. After a late race caution set up a Green-White-Checkered finish, Long had his sights set on the leader. Carl was unable to compensate for the loose condition as Chase Pistone drove away on the final restart. Knowing he had a car to win, Long had to settle for a, still, very impressive 2nd place finish in the Naturally Fresh 250 at Concord Motorsport Park.

  • 4/20/07 Long Finishes Strong with Solid 6th Place at South Boston: Photo: Ken Childs Starting from the 7th position, Carl Long raced the #12 Romeo Guest Construction Ford strong all night, and was able to cross the checkered flag in 6th position in Saturday's Farmer's Foods 250 at South Boston Speedway.
Long ran a steady race in the early going, racing competitively well into the top 10. The only major snag encountered for Carl Long and Long Brothers Racing was when Long and eventual race winner Bobby Gill were battling in the top 10 for position on lap 120. Carl got spun around, but avoided wall contact. Following this incident were two red flags for rain. After the rain cleared, Carl Long was on a mission to gain positions, and made his way well back up the standings. With about 10 laps to go, Long was knocking on the door of a top 10 finish. Long capitalized on the typical rough short track racing in the late stages of the race to fight his way forward to a 6th place finish!

  • 2/28/07 Long Moves Into 2007 With A Different Approach: UPDATE Plans for 2007 have Carl Long taking on NASCAR with a different approach than years past. Long has decided to focus his efforts in the Busch Series division of NASCAR. Long has already scheduled a few races to run with the Long Brothers Racing team in the coming season, as well as a continued partnership with veteran team owner Stan Hover. The team-up with Hover would have Long and Hover's team geared up to run a limited Busch Series schedule in 2007, most likely starting at either Atlanta or Bristol in the spring. Further details will be available as the new season draws closer. In addition to running in the Busch Series, Carl Long will be running a handful of Hooters Pro Cup and Late Model races in 2007 with Long Brothers Racing.
UPDATE: Here is the latest on Carl Long's 2007 racing plans.

Carl has been working diligently on his NASCAR Busch Series car, putting in many long hours at the shop. The Dodge Charger racecar is being prepared in hopes of acquiring financial backing to run the Nicorette 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 17th. A car number has yet to be assigned.

Carl's USAR Hooter's Pro Cup season is scheduled to start in June at Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, Georgia, with a possibility of being asked to drive at South Boston Speedway in April to fill in for another driver. Carl's radio communication system lost connection after the first lap of the race; making it so Carl could not hear his crew. On lap 3 there was more trouble. Carl believes that he may have lost his brakes going into turn 3, causing him to get loose and slide up the track, making contact with the outside of the wall. The team spent numerous laps in the pits attempting to fix the brakes and damage to the truck. After repairs, Carl was still able to make competitive runs around the track for many laps. However, the team's day would come to an end on lap 78 when a wheel bearing broke and caught on fire. The #28 FDNY Racing Chevrolet would finish a disappointing 35th position Friday night at Lowes Motor Speedway.

2/18/06 Rough Weekend Comes To an End for Long / RoadLoans Team:Motorsport.com The #80 RoadLoans.com Ford, driven by Carl Long, had a very problematic weekend that prohibited the Hover Motorsports team from showing their potential. The engine in the Roadloans Ford had struggled all weekend, and became even further hurt in qualifying after the team tried to push the engine to it's limit to get all possible speed out. In the 150-mile qualifying race, the engine damage on the #80 RoadLoans Ford was evident. The team tried to add more grill tape to the car on one of the last cautions of the race in hopes of being able to keep up with the lead draft. The tape didn't help enough, and ended up overheating the engine. With water and steam spewing out of the #80 RoadLoans.com Ford, Carl Long was forced to call it a day with 7 laps remaining in the race. Carl would finish 27th, unfortunately that would not be a high enough finish to qualify for the Daytona 500.

TruckSeries.com As for the #28 RoadLoans.com Chevrolet in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the weekend was equally troublesome and frustrating for Long and the FDNY Racing team. After having a promising first practice run, the truck lost speed in second practice for reasons that are still not completely clear. Unfortunately the lost of power would do in the RoadLoans.com Chevrolet Silverado, resulting in not being quick enough to qualify for the GM FlexFuel 250 at Daytona.

11/7/05 Long / McGlynn Part Ways: It was announced today that Carl Long and McGlynn Racing have parted ways, effective immediately. The part was on good terms, and was done for the better of both parties involved. Carl Long would like to thank McGlynn Racing for allowing him to drive for their team throughout the 2005 season.

8/26/05 Long to Battle It Out at Bristol from 43rd:
BRISTOL, TN -- McGlynn Racing had to sweat out a close one in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series qualifying Friday evening at Bristol Motor Speedway. Carl Long had to make his qualifying run early on in the session, putting the team at a disadvantage with speeds generally quicker later in the evening. Fortunately for the team, Long made a clean and solid lap around the half-mile, high banked oval. His first lap was the fastest of the pair at 15.484 seconds... But would that be enough to qualify? It all came down to just a few cars left to run. A team outside the top 35 in owners points ran a slower lap in qualifying than the #80 Royal Administration/Carloan.com Chevrolet, bumping Carl Long into the field. The #80 McGlynn Racing Chevrolet was 40th fastest in qualifying, but due to new rules, Carl Long will start last (43rd) in Saturday night's Sharpie 500.
New Sponsor for the Race: BoSPOKER.net, primary sponsor of the #37 R.J. Motorsports Dodge that failed to qualify for tomorrow's race, will now be on the hood of the #80 McGlynn Racing Chevrolet driven by Carl Long for Saturday's Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

7/21/05 Incomplete Car Forces Early Exit At Loudon:
LOUDON, NH -- McGlynn Racing was unable to secure enough time to finish installing brake ducts onto their backup car to race at New Hampshire International Speedway on Sunday. The backup car, a Chevrolet that was used at Pocono earlier in the year, was not built for small tracks with lots of braking. With this being an impound race, McGlynn Racing was only given the time up to the start of the Busch Series race to finish working on their backup car. Much to the disappointment of the team, this was simply not enough time to complete the vehicle for competition the following day. The #00 Buyer's Choice/Howes Lubricator Chevrolet completed only 8 laps to finish 43rd in Sunday's race.

Carl Long and McGlynn Racing will be back in action this coming weekend at Pocono Raceway where the #00 Champion Builders/Buyer's Choice Dodge will be running in the Pennsylvania 500.

LOUDON, NH -- After completing a decent first lap in qualifying Saturday afternoon, Carl Long went ahead and ran a second lap to try to get more speed out of his car. While having a faster lap going entering turn three on lap two, the #00 Buyers Choice/Howes Lubricator/CJA Remodeling Dodge lost grip in the center of the turn and spun around, making heavy contact to the left front and rear of the car. Luckily lap one was quick enough to be 35th fastest overall, getting the McGlynn Racing Dodge into Sunday's New England 300.
The team will be going to a backup car and starting at the rear of the field for the race.

7/12/05 Long Too Hot at Chicagoland:Photo: Ralph Francello
JOLIET, IL -- For most drivers, being hot at a racetrack would be a good thing. Not for Carl Long at Chicagoland Speedway on a balmy and hot Sunday afternoon. Long was forced to bail out of his racecar on lap 148 of the USG Sheetrock 400 this past Sunday, when water that had spilled onto his seat began to boil, burning his skin. Carl Long was running in the top 35, 2 laps down at the time he exited the racecar. Long was sent to the infield care center, but was released shortly later. Carl is feeling better now, but still sore from the burns he sustained.

The heat wasn't the only surprise Carl Long and McGlynn Racing experienced on Sunday. On lap 70, Carl pulled the #00 Sunquest Vacations/CarLoan.com/Buyers Choice Dodge into the pits under green to replace a flat right front tire. Luckily no damage was done to the car; Long would continue racing. Later on lap 127, Carl Long and the #00 Dodge got turned sideways and slid through the frontstretch grass while trying to avoid a crash ahead. The car was fine and the team continued on until the water incident on lap 148 where the team would retire for the day.

When the race finally concluded, the #00 Sunquest Vacations/CarLoan.com/Buyers Choice Dodge would wind up finishing 40th after one eventful afternoon.

Carl Long and McGlynn Racing will be back racing this weekend in the New England 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway.

    7/9/05 Long Qualifies 37th for Sunday's USG Sheetrock 400:
JOLIET, IL -- The entire McGlynn Racing team had to be on top of their game Friday in order to get their newly purchased Dodge fast enough to qualify for the USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. The car turned out to be quick from the start in the morning practice, and continued to improve with minor adjustments. When the car was dialed in as best as possible, it was all up to Carl Long to put the #00 Sunquest Vacations/CarLoan.com/Buyers Choice Dodge into Sunday's race. Luckily for the team, Long made two smooth laps plenty quick enough to land a spot into the field. The McGlynn Racing Dodge will start the USG Sheetrock 400 from the 37th position on Sunday.

7/6/05 McGlynn, Long Return to Action in Chicago: After taking a few weeks off to regroup and become better prepared, Carl Long and McGlynn Racing are ready to hit the track once again. Carl Long will be piloting the #00 Sunquest Vacations Dodge at the Chicagoland Speedway this weekend for the running of the USG Sheetrock 400. Qualifying is scheduled to be held on Friday at 4:00 pm EST.

6/13/05 Pocono Practice Crash Forces Withdrawal From Event: On Friday, Carl Long crashed hard into the Tunnel Turn wall after hitting a patch on the track's surface that upset the car's handling. With qualifying being held on Saturday, the team elected to get their backup car ready. The backup was an unprepared car just purchased from another team days earlier. With very little time on their side, there was not a whole lot the team could do. Eventually the time ran out, and McGlynn Racing was forced to withdraw the #00 Champion Builders / Sundance Vacations car from the event.

McGlynn Racing plans to take some off to regroup and get their program back on track. The #00 car should be back racing no later than the NEXTEL Cup Series Chicagoland Speedway event on July 10th.

6/6/05 Troubles Continue to Plague Developing McGlynn Team at Dover:Photo: Ralph Francello
DOVER, DE -- After an impressive start to the race that saw driver Carl Long rapidly make his way up the standings pylon, McGlynn racing looked poised for a strong run on Sunday at Dover International Speedway. Unfortunately the run was short lived, when the car began spewing hot water and steam around lap 20, indicating that the engine was about to expire. The cause of this problem resulted from the car type. The car McGlynn Racing had to use, as it was their only car ready, was a speedway style car, typical for high-speed tracks of 1.5 miles or more. The ventilation of the grill on this car was no match for the slower speeds and warm air temps at Dover International Speedway. The #00 Sundance Vacations / KelleeKars.com Chevrolet finished a very disappointing 42nd position after completing just 26 laps of the 400 lap MBNA RacePoints 400.

DOVER, DE -- A persistent rain at Dover International Speedway canceled Friday's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series qualifying. The starting lineup has been set by current owner points as well as race attempts. Fortunately for Carl Long and McGlynn Racing, the team compiled enough points and attempts throughout the season to receive a spot in the field for Sunday's MBNA RacePoints 400. The #00 Buyer's Choice/KelleeKars.com Chevrolet will start the race in the 43rd position.

The NEXTEL Cup teams will have the opportunity to make laps on the track Saturday morning, in the only two practice sessions prior to Sunday's race.

Last weekend, Carl Long qualified a career best 21st position in the #80 McGlynn Racing machine at Darlington Raceway! Unfortunately, the team's mechanical woes would surface again this weekend in another form. A ratchet broke off the rear end at the start of the race. This caused the #80 Chevrolet's handling to rapidly fall off. For the safety of Long and their competitors, the team elected to call it a day once they got lapped by the leaders just shy of lap 70. The McGlynn team would end up finishing a disappointing 42nd after coming into the race with high hopes after a superb qualifying effort.

4/23/05 Broken Valve Spring Causes Havoc For #00 In SUBWAY Fresh 500:Photo: Motorsport.com
PHOENIX, AZ -- Nightfall had yet to hit the Phoenix International Raceway Saturday evening before trouble would hit Carl Long and the #00 McGlynn Racing Chevrolet.

The race for Carl Long and McGlynn Racing would start out at a slow pace to allow Long to settle in and adjust to the track. Everything was running as planned, until shortly after the first caution of the race. The Buyer's Choice/KelleKars.com/Howes Lubricator Chevrolet began to slow down and lose it's handling. The car gradually lost contact with the end of the field.

A weak valve spring that the team had concerns about before the race would inevitably decide McGlynn Racing's fate for the evening.

The valve spring snapped off the valve shortly before lap 50, causing catastrophic damage to the engine and many of it's components. The weak spring is believed to be a product of the trouble the team faced at Bristol weeks ago when the engine began to overheat.

Carl Long wound up finishing a very disappointing 43rd position after completing just 53 laps in the SUBWAY Fresh 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.

PHOENIX, AZ -- In the past, Carl Long has shown that he can adapt to an unfamiliar track in a heartbeat; Phoenix was no different. With a strong car and a solid team backing Long up, there would be no trouble getting the #00 Buyer's Choice/Howes Lubricator Chevrolet into the field of Saturday night's Subway Fresh 500. After a stellar lap put up by Long in qualifying earlier today, the #00 McGlynn Racing entry will start tomorrow night's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway in 41st position. Phoenix will mark Carl Long's 15th career start in NASCAR's premiere racing series.

4/4/05 Overheated Engine Ends Day Early For Long & Company:Photo:McGlynn Racing
BRISTOL, TN -- The #00 Buyer's Choice / KelleeKars.com Chevrolet would not last long in Sunday afternoon's race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The team made a crucial error by leaving too much tape on the grill of the car for the start of the race. Carl Long, not yet aware of the issue, asked for only fuel on the first pit stop of the day as the car was handling beautifully. However, around lap 35, their mistaken began to show. The car started to puff out smoke as Long pace around under the 2nd caution of the day. The McGlynn team radioed Long to assess the problem. Carl Long concluded that the engine had begun to overheat. Long attempted to make a pit stop under green to let the crew take a look at the car, but Carl was black flagged for entering at the wrong entrance, and then black flagged again for speeding while attempting to serving his penalty. With the potential of already damaging the engine, the McGlynn crew felt it was best to call it a day to save the engine from blowing up, and not cause any additional trouble for the team or their fellow competitors. The McGlynn Chevrolet's day would end after completing just 37 laps. Long would finish 42nd

4/1/05 Team McGlynn Gets It Done At Bristol, Qualifies 38th, Will Start 43rd:Photo:McGlynn Racing
BRISTOL, TN-- After a couple of tough back to back weekends at Las Vegas and Atlanta, Carl Long and the entire McGlynn Racing team wanted to prove to the sport that they do have what it takes to be competitive in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup. So far this week has certainly been a nice change of pace for the team, and really showcased what they're capable of.

Carl Long made the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway today... and that's no April Fools joke.

Perhaps it was McGlynn Racing's generosity of giving up sponsorship space on their #00 Chevrolet to help support a worthy cause, or maybe it was just the sleek new paint scheme that made the difference this weekend? What ever the reason may have been, Carl Long gave it all he had in qualifying as he always does, and put up a good enough lap time to secure him a spot in the field for Sunday's race.

The 15.426 second lap that Carl Long recorded on his 2nd lap of qualifying scored Long and McGlynn Racing a 38th place starting spot, picking up over 3 tenths of a second from practice, and besting numerous top teams in the process. The #00 Chevrolet was just 4 tenths off the pole-winning time set by #38-Elliott Sadler.

McGlynn Racing would like to send out a big thanks to all of their sponsors and supporters for making this weekend possible: Buyer's Choice Automotive Warranties, KelleeKars.com, Howe's Lubricator Products, Champion Builders Inc., CJA Remodeling, RacingMetal.com, Colours, and the team's newest partnership with the Polly Klaas Foundation.

Bristol marks the first race McGlynn Racing and Carl Long have made in 2005. The duo has one previous start together that occurred last season when Carl Long just barely squeaked into the field at Pocono, and finished 42nd after starting 38th due to an accident. This also happens to be Carl's first career Bristol NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start, after having made 6 attempts over the past 6 years.

McGlynn Racing looks forward to having a solid, but clean run on Sunday. On the minds of most teams on race day is usually one thing: Stay out of trouble. Accidents on the 36-degree banked half-mile are usually inevitable. It's necessary for the driver to race the racetrack and not your competitors until the end draws near. Carl Long and McGlynn Racing look to do just that come Sunday.

There are no additional on-track events for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teams until Sunday, April 3rd, when the teams will hit the track for the running of the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. FOX television coverage begins at 12:30 pm Eastern Time.

NOTE: Carl Long will start the #00 Buyer's Choice/KelleeKars.com Chevrolet in the 43rd position on Sunday. This is due to NASCAR's new qualifying rules that allows the 43rd spot to go to either a past champion not already in the field, or the 8th fastest car not in the top 35 in owner points. As there was no past champion in need of a provisional, the #00 team got the nod to fall into the 43rd starting position for the race.

3/23/05 McGlynn Racing Ready to Brush Off Rocky Start of Season:Photo: Carl Long and McGlynn Racing have had a rough time adjusting to the new rules that the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series has put on the teams for 2005. The first two race attempts were learning experiences for the team to adjust and better prepare themselves for the future. Progress had been made; unfortunately the team was unable to earn themselves a position in either of the races at Atlanta and Las Vegas. The team will get a much needed week off this week, before heading out to Bristol Motor Speedway where Carl Long will once again try to get the #00 McGlynn Racing Chevrolet into the race. Bristol is a track that Carl has logged a lot of laps on. Long scored a NASCAR All-Pro Series win at the track in 1997, and a top 10 start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1998.

3/1/05 McGlynn, Long to Roll the Dice @ Vegas: Carl Long will be piloting the #00 Buyer's Choice/Howes/Champion Builders Chevrolet next weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the running of the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race. In last year's event, Carl Long started the fan-supported #02 Pontiac in 41st position and finished 38th due to an oil pump issue that dropped him out of the race after completing 145 of 267 laps.

12/15/04 Tentative 2005 Plans:Photo: Ralph Francello The 2004 season was quite a year for Carl Long. From the heart-stopping rollover wreck at Rockingham in February, to the impressive qualifying efforts at Loudon, and who could forget Pocono in July when Carl Long went out last to qualify, and put his Dodge into the field--the last spot on speed. There were many great times; unfortunately the bad times outweighed the good in the end. So here Carl Long sits, ready to start the 2005 season. Long, still without a full-time ride for 2005, will keep on doing what he loves to do best...race--any way he can.

Carl Long's tentative 2005 season plans are as followed: Long once again will team up with Raynard McGlynn and McGlynn Racing to run an undefined number of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races in 2005. This year the duo will focus further on combining resources to strengthen both parties involved. Carl Long will be the primary driver for the mega-team, running the majority of the races. While Ryan McGlynn, son of team owner Raynard McGlynn, will run selected short track races on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup circuit. A two-car team for some events is possible. The team will utilize Chevrolet Monte Carlos and Dodge Chargers under the numbers 00 and 46. Both McGlynn Racing and Carl Long Racing are in search for primary sponsorship. There are no plans to run the season opening race at Daytona. The team hopes to head out to California Speedway on February 27th to mark the Auto Club 500 as their season-opening race.

Long will be behind the wheel of the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford for this weekend's Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

10/30/04 What's Next / Busch Series Sponsorship Offer: UPDATEPhoto: Ralph Francello Carl Long's next scheduled NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race will be the Mountain Dew Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on November 14th. Long will pilot the McGlynn Racing #00 Buyer's Choice Automotive Warranty Chevrolet.

Carl Long and NASCAR Busch Series team owner, Tyrrell Madden, have teamed up in hopes of running the final two NASCAR Busch Series races of the season at Darlington Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway. The team will operate under #90 with Carl Long behind the wheel, and will utilize Long's Busch Series Dodge stockcar, and Madden's Busch Series Dodge engine. USAR Hooters Pro Cup veteran, Greg Marlowe, has been helping the newly formed team prepare the car for competition.

Carl Long is making available a special offer for companies who are looking to sponsor in the NASCAR Busch Series; who want high profile car coverage, but do not have a lot of money to spend. For $20,000 per race, the sponsor will receive full primary sponsorship coverage on the #90 Long/Madden Dodge.
"This is going to be a complete effort, not no start and park deal," Carl Long stated. "We just want to race, but we need a little help to get us there."
This offer is available for the BI-LO 300 at Darlington Raceway on November 13th, and the Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 20th. Potential sponsors can e-mail us at sponsor@carl-long.com for more information.

11/10/04 UPDATE: Changes have been made to Carl's NASCAR Busch Series team for Darlington only, as Tyrrell Madden was unavailable to submit a race entry for this weekend's race. Carl Long will now be driving the #83 K&L Chrome Dodge for Long Brothers Racing. The team will still be utilizing Long's stockcar and Madden's engine.

9/18/04 Mother Nature Foils Good Qualifying Run By Long:
    By Lee Montgomery, NASCAR.COM
LOUDON, N.H. -- Carl Long changed jobs late Friday afternoon.

The rainout of Sylvania 300 qualifying sent Long home without a starting spot at New Hampshire International Speedway. But it left him with a full allotment of tires, and Long was working the soggy garage area to try to unload some of them.

Long had qualified his No. 46 Dodge with a lap of 130.011 mph, good enough for 11th of the 16 drivers that took a lap before the remnants of Hurricane Ivan moved in central New Hampshire. And it likely would have been good enough to make the race.

"I was hoping that we would get it in," Long said. "And we did. I got mine in, but that was it. Now, I've got to see if I can find some guys here that's in the race who will buy some tires off of me." Read More...

Next week, Long will drive Stan Hover's [#80] car at Dover.

8/31/04 Long Realigns With Hover Motorsports:Photo: JamWebCorp.com After a brief hiatus, Carl Long will be back behind the wheel of the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford for nine of the eleven remaining NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races this season beginning next weekend at Richmond International Raceway for the running of the Chevy Rock & Roll 400. Long will run the other two races with his own #46 Dodge in these scheduled events: Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway (9/19) and UAW-GM Quality 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway (10/16). Carl has no plans to race this weekend at California Speedway. ?Schedule

8/25/04 Long Released From Hover Motorsports: Carl Long was released from the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford Monday afternoon due to financial reasons. An opportunity coasted by team owner Stan Hover's way that he could not pass up. Hover and Long parted on good terms; the split was strictly economical. Carl Long is looking to get back into a driver's seat soon, but in the meantime, he will concentrate on his job with Spears Motorsports. Stay tuned for updates...

8/20/04 Rain Hands Long A Spot Into Cup Field:Photo: Ralph Francello A persistent rain canceled both NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series qualifying scheduled to be held today at Michigan International Speedway. Current owner points set the starting lineups. Luckily for Carl, the Hover Motorsports team had enough qualifying attempts to earn them a spot into the field of the GFS Marketplace 400. Carl Long will start the #80 Commercial Truck & Trailer Ford in 43rd spot for Sunday's GFS Marketplace 400. This will kick off the first event of many more races that Long and Hover Motorsports will run together in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup. As for the Busch Series side of Carl's double duty weekend, the outcome was not as fortunate. The #07 Moy Racing Ford had not made enough attempts to secure them a spot into the field of the Cabela's 250.

8/17/04 Long To Run Remainder Of Cup Schedule With Hover:Photo: Motorsport.com Carl Long has announced today that he plans to drive the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford Taurus for the rest of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series season starting this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. Hover Motorsports is in need of extra help at their race shop in Salisbury, North Carolina. In order for the #80 Ford to be competitive on the track week after week, Hover Motorsports needs individuals with some experience to help work on their racecars in the race shop. Those who are interested can e-mail us at team@carl-long.com. Carl is still working for Spears Motorsports, however, he has stepped down from his weekend position as truck chief. ?Schedule ?GFS Marketplace 400 Entry List

8/5/04 What's Next On The Schedule:Photo: Ralph Francello Carl Long will be running the NASCAR Busch Series race this Saturday at Indianapolis Raceway Park driving the #01 Whitaker Racing Chevrolet (Entry List). Carl's next NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race will be the GFS Marketplace 400 at Michigan International Speedway on August 22nd. Long will be behind the wheel of Stan Hover's #80 Hover Motorsports Ford.
8/8/04 Withdrawal From Busch Event: Carl Long and Whitaker Racing elected to withdraw their #01 Chevrolet from running the Kroger 200 at IRP this past weekend. They felt that they were not prepared enough just yet to make a competitive venture into the NASCAR Busch Series.

8/2/04 Early End To Penn 500 For Long:Photo: Ralph Francello Due to a persistent rain all day Saturday, both NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series practices were canceled, leaving no on-track practice time for the teams before the race. The #80 Commercial Truck & Trailer Ford crew had to set up the car for race conditions to the best of their ability. Much to their disappointment, the car did not handle well on Sunday. Carl Long spent much of the early laps of the Pennsylvania 500 trying to stay out of the way of faster traffic. After around 30 laps into the race, NASCAR had radioed to Carl's crew to pit and attempt to improve their car as it was not up to minimum speed. The team made a few modifications to the car, and elected to wait for a caution to come out to make more major changes. However, on lap 44, one lap before a caution would eventually come out, NASCAR radioed to the crew again, and told the team to park their car because it still was not meeting minimal race speed. According to NASCAR rules, if you are unable to get your car up to minimum speed after already attempting to fix it once before, your day is done. Having no other choice, Carl Long pulled the Hover Motorsports Ford into the garage after only completing 44 laps, finishing 39th. ?Results
7/30/04 Long Lands Spot In Pennsylvania 500 Field:Photo: Jayski.com Carl Long made his qualifying run early on Friday afternoon in the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford. Long put up a good lap in qualifying that looked like it could be good enough to make the field of the Pennslyvania 500 on speed. As each team rolled through their qualifying run, cloud cover rolled across the sky at Pocono Raceway late in the session, making for ideal qualifying conditions. Unfortunately, the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford became the last car to get bumped out of the top 38 in qualifying, sending Long to a provisional starting spot for Sunday's race. Carl will line up 43rd on the grid for Sunday's Pennsylvania 500.

?Busch: Carl's #07 BG Products Ford broke a rocker arm in Friday morning practice for the Siemens 200. Pieces of the rocker arm had become lodged in the engine compartment. The crew was unable to pull out all the debris, and no backup engine was available to use. Having remnents of a rocker arm trapped in an engine could be damaging if ran like that for a long period of time. This car and engine was scheduled to run next weekend at Pikes Peak, Colorado. The team had no extra time to spend in the shop fixing a damaged engine before making the long trek out to Colorado. Feeling that it's better to be safe than sorry, the team elected to have Carl run just a few laps in the race on Saturday. Carl finished 41st, after completing 12 laps.?Results
?NEXTEL Cup: Carl Long paced himself early on in the Siemens 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway, trying to feel out how the car would handle on the track during race conditions. The #46 Buyer's Choice/Howes Lubricator Dodge was driving fine nearing the one-third mark of the race; Carl was only one lap down in 39th position at this point. A quick caution came out on the track around lap 95. Long made a trip to the pits to get serviced by the McGlynn Racing crew, who was gracious enough to stay the weekend to pit the car for Carl. Everything went as scheduled until the restart of the race. When the race went back to green-flag conditions, Carl went to shift the car up to third gear, but nothing happened. It turned out that the transmission had broke on the Glenn Racing-owned Dodge. This would cause a premature end the team's day. Carl finished 42nd after completing 100 laps. ?Results

?Next Race: Carl Long will be running the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway next weekend. He will be behind the wheel of the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford owned by Stan Hover.

7/23/04 Long Qualifies For Loudon Duo:Photo: Motorsport.com Carl Long blazed through the mile-long Loudon oval, qualifying for both NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series races at New Hampshire International Speedway! Long managed to crank out just enough juice in the #07 BG Products/Jenkins & Jenkins Ford to secure himself the 37th starting position for Saturday's Siemens 200 NASCAR Busch Series event. Moy Racing teammate, Jimmy Kitchens, starts his #77 Ford right beside Carl in 38th position.
After qualifying for the NASCAR Busch Series race, it was time for Carl Long to get his #46 Buyers Choice/Howes Lubricator Dodge into the field of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series show at NHIS. 7/11/04 Moving On To Loudon:Photo: Ralph Francello This weekend at Chicagoland Speedway turned out to be a disappointment for Carl Long and the Moy Racing Busch Series team. The #07 Ford faced fuel system problems all weekend long. Unfortunately, the team was unable to solve those problems by qualifying on Friday. The lack of fuel pickup resulted in loss of power to the #07, making it impossible for Carl to get the car up to full speed. The qualifying lap that Long put up was not fast enough to make the race. Carl's Moy Racing teammate, Jimmy Kitchens, suffered the same fate, as Kitchens was also unable to qualify his #77 Ford into the field of 43 for Saturday's Tropicana Twister 300.

After Busch and NEXTEL Cup teams get a weekend off, it's back to racing once again the following week. Both series will head to the New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire. Carl Long will return to seat of his #46 Glenn Racing Dodge where he will run the New England 300 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race. Long will also be back in the #07 Moy Racing Ford to run the New England 200 NASCAR Busch Series event. All the on-track action begins Friday, July 23rd.

6/23/04 What's New: Photo: Ralph Francello After failing to make the DHL 400 at Michigan Intl' Speedway last weekend, the McGlynn Motorsports team plans to take a few weeks off of racing to better prepare themselves for upcoming events. They hope to finalize their next race plans soon.

Carl Long was scheduled to drive Rick Ware's NEXTEL Cup #52 Dodge this weekend at Infineon Raceway, a 2 mile road course in Sonoma, California. However, the engine that Carl had planned to run in Ware's Dodge did not finish it's maintenance in time, therefore Long will not be making the trek out to Infineon. Long and Ware plan to work out another deal to team up in the near future.

The Carl Long Racing/Glenn Racing #46 Dodge will be back in action racing in the New England 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway on July 25th.

6/11/04 Long Qualifies 38th For Pocono 500: Photo: PoconoRaceway.com The last car, the last lap, and the last spot on time. This pretty much summed up qualifying for Carl Long on Friday. Long was the last driver to go out and attempt to qualify for the Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway. The first lap Carl put up on the boards was not fast enough to put him into the show. He stepped it up on lap two, and just like that, Carl Long muscled his way into the field, grabbing the final time trial spot in the lineup. Carl Long will start the #00 Buyer's Choice Auto Warranties / Fendler & Assocs. Dodge from the 38th position for Sunday's Pocono 500. 6/8/04 McGlynn Motorsports To Lease Long's Dodge For Pocono: Last time out at Dover International Speedway, McGlynn Motorsport's primary car failed to pass tech inspection before going out to practice. The team was unable to fix the car for this weekend, leaving their plans for Pocono uncertain. However, Carl Long was able to come through for the team. Carl agreed to lease his Dodge to McGlynn Motorsports for himself to drive at Pocono Raceway this weekend. The car is the same one Long drove at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the NEXTEL Open and Coca-Cola 600. The car will have its numbers switched over to #00. McGlynn Motorsports plans to run additional races with Long later in the season once their primary car has the proper modifications made to it. ?Pocono Entry List

6/5/04 Car Body Problems Force Early End To Dover Weekend: This weekend at Dover International Speedway did not last long for the McGlynn Motorsports team. The #00 Chevrolet could not get past inspection due to the car's body not properly fitting the templates; specifically the roof and windshield regions. Without a backup car to use, Carl Long and McGlynn Motorsports were done for the weekend without even making a lap on the track. McGlynn Motorsports hopes to have a car ready for next weekend to run the Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway.

5/27/04 Long Misses 600 Field: Photo: Eric McConnell Right off the bat, the Carl Long Racing Team knew making the field of the Coca-Cola 600 would be a challenge. A season high 52 teams sent in an entry to attempt to earn a spot in the Coca-Cola 600 race at Lowe's Motor Speedway. This would leave nine teams that would be heading home after qualifying. Carl Long made a valiant effort in qualifying. He posted the 44th fastest time, picking up nearly one and a half seconds from his quickest practice time. Unfortunately, the pickup wasn't substantial enough. The #46 RacingMetal.com Dodge team would be forced to head home early after failing to make the field of the Coca-Cola 600.

Carl's next NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race has yet to be determined.

3/7/04 Engine Problems Force Early Race Exit For Carl: Photo: The #02 RacingJunk.com / RacingMetal.com Pontiac faced handling problems in the early stages of the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. Carl Long ran his own race much of the afternoon, keeping himself out of trouble. After a mid-race caution, the #02 crew had the car handling better than it had been all day. However, trouble was just around the corner. Smoke began to trail out of the #02 Pontiac on lap 152. Carl pulled the car into the pits the following lap. The crew inspected the car, and determined the engine had expired. Further inspection showed an oil line had come loose from the engine. The SCORE Motorsports team elected to not risk going back out and damaging the engine any further. The team was done for the day after completing 145 laps of the 267 lap race. Long and the #02 RacingJunk.com / RacingMetal.com Pontiac wound up finishing 38th.

Carl has plans in the works to drive a #02 SCORE Motorsports Chevrolet in the NEXTEL Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway in April.

2/22/04 Long Takes A Wild Tumble At The Rock: Photo From FOX / NASCAR.com Carl Long was involved in a frightening looking crash today on lap 265 of the Subway 400. Carl, driving the #46 Al Smith / IPG Dodge, was racing #01-Joe Nemechek out of Turn 2 when #77-Brendan Gaughan got into Nemechek, who subsequently turned Long nose-first into the outside wall. Upon impact, Long got turned sideways and his car began to barrel roll down the straightaway a total of five-and-a-half times before coming to rest on the apron. Carl quickly jumped out of the car, uninjured from the vicious tumble he took. Long was running in 35th position prior to the accident. Carl will be credited with finishing 38th in Sunday's Subway 400 at North Carolina Speedway.

Check NASCAR.com for a full report and photography on the incident:
Long loses car, but not sense of humor

Clarification: During an interview, Carl stated that his spotter, Jim Robbins, did not tell him there was someone around him when the accident occurred, thinking that it was his spotter's fault that the wreck happened. This was a misunderstanding. At the time, Carl had not seen a replay of the accident, and did not know what really happened behind him to set off the wreck. Carl wants to express that Jim Robbins did his job properly, and was not responsible for the incident.

Carl Long sincerely thanks all of you for your generous donations and your well-appreciated support!

2/21/04 Early Trouble Results In Disappointing Busch Series Finish: Photo From BGNRacing.com The Goody's Headache Powder 200 became a real headache for Carl Long early on in the race. Long, who had been fighting a loose condition with the #83 Barnes Precision Machine Ford, went one lap down to the leaders shortly before the 1/4th mark of the 200 mile race which had been caution-free at that point. While Carl was trying to stay out of the way of lead lap competitors, he got himself into trouble. Going into turn two on lap 47, Carl got really loose from pressure of faster lead lap cars behind him. The back end of the car was starting to turn around on him. Carl fought the steering wheel to try not to spin out. Carl did save the car from spinning, but he overcorrected his #83 Ford, and slammed the front and rear of the car hard into the outside wall. The car was not damaged enough to end Carl's day, but the handling of the car was completely thrown off for the duration of the race. Carl nursed the bent and beaten Barnes Precision Machine Ford to the finish line in 28th position, seven laps down. However, the weekend is not over yet! Carl will be back tomorrow to muscle the #46 Al Smith Dodge around the 1.017-mile North Carolina Speedway in the Subway 400 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race.
