Carl Long to enter Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway with Ware Racing Enterprises
August 14, 2002
(Thomasville, NC) Carl Long, known to his fellow NASCAR Winston Cup Competitors as the “One Man Gang” will take his first steps toward shedding that name as he teams up with current Craftsman Truck Series team Ware Racing Enterprises to field the #51 Winston Cup effort.
Long’s first race with Ware Racing Enterprises will be the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 24th, 2002. Long will attempt to qualify the #51 RevivalSoy.com Dodge Intrepid for team owner Rick Ware.
Ware, one of the younger owners in the Winston Cup Series is excited seeing his team step up to the challenge of Winston Cup racing “This is a huge step up for this team, yet we don’t have any misconceptions about the series, we expect to have a huge learning curve and take many lumps along the way, but I’m excited and privileged to be a part of the worlds greatest spectacle.”
Long, 34 years of age from Roxboro, North Carolina hopes to minimize Ware Racing’s learning curve. “The fact that I’ve been through the tech line as a driver, crew chief and crew member all in the past few years will be a great asset to Cal Northrop (current crew chief) and the rest of the guys. In the past, I would spend more time going through tech and working on the car than actually being out on the track, practicing, getting the car ready for qualifying. Now, having a full time crew, one that has worked together week in and week out is something that I haven’t had before on the Winston Cup level. These guys will allow me to now focus on being a race car driver and get the full two hours of practice and get the car in the show”.
RevivalSoy.com, a retailer of soy products which have many health benefits and are a proven alternative to HRT, has signed on with Ware Racing as a primary sponsor for Bristol and an associate sponsor throughout the rest of the 2002 season. Although primary sponsorship is only in place for Bristol - Ware Racing and Carl Long plan to enter all remaining 2002 Winston Cup races, as well as a full time schedule in 2003.
