►12/16/2018 - Homestead Post-Race Report

MBM Motorsports entered three NASCAR Xfinity Series cars on a weekend in which a mammoth entry list of 45 cars, the most entrants since the first race of the season at Daytona, were gunning for the 40 available starting spots in the season finale at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The Ford 300 marked the final race in which a Dodge body was eligible to attempt to qualify for an Xfinity event. Team owner Carl Long put himself in the driver's seat of the #40 CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge, seeking his 125th Xfinity series start but first at Homestead. Full-time Rookie of the Year contender Chad Finchum slid over to the #66 Smithbilt Homes / Amana Toyota, and Timmy Hill was selected to pilot the #13 Fluidyne / CrashClaimsR.Us Toyota.

the three premier series of NASCAR.

All three cars were in the Top 33 fastest cars in Practice 1 and in the Top 35 in Practice 2. The highlight on Friday came from Finchum; the Knoxville, Tennessee native was 20th fastest in the final session at a speed of 161.281 MPH. With 45 cars attempting to qualify and the unknown of how many teams up in the owner points would be in need of a provisional, all three MBM cars entered qualifying on Saturday knowing they needed to make the Top 33 in Round 1 to assure themselves spots on the starting grid.

Miami. He qualified 36th and finished 30th at this track in 2017.

Timmy Hill was the first of the three to hit the track, and his 157.462 MPH speed he set on lap 1 held up to make the race, earning P31, two tenths of a second safe to the Top 33. Finchum was the next MBM car out to qualify. He put up a 159.726 MPH on his second lap, 24 thousandths of a second away from reaching Round 2 for the third consecutive week. But critically, the #66 made the Top 33 easily, with a margin of nearly seven tenths of a second.

Carl Long brought the #40 out onto the track late in Round 1, but entering Turn 1, the car bottomed out hard on the splitter, sending the Dodge up the track and into the wall. With that contact, Long was unable to set a representative lap time. He ended up receiving the last owner points provisional spot in the field, edging out the #45 JP Motorsports car by one points position. Over the course of the entire 2018 campaign up until Miami, MBM's #40 accumulated 247 owner points to the #45 car's 245. That two point difference placed Long in the field and Josh Bilicki out of the Ford EcoBoost 300.

The MBM crew effected repairs to the Dodge prior to the green flag. However, at the very opening of the race, lap 2, Long cut down a right-front tire and was forced to make a green flag pit stop. From that point on, the race became about survival, with the objective being to just reach the checkered flag. Finchum in the #66 was having a more competitive run for much of the night, fighting near the Top 25. His race was brought to a premature end within 15 laps of the finish though, when a component in the right front of the car broke.

Finchum ended up as the highest classified MBM car in 31st, completing 187 of 200 laps. Long did get to the checkered flag, finishing 180 of 200 laps and placing 33rd. It was the first Xfinity race that Long reached the finish of since Richmond in April of 2017. Hill in the #13 finished 35th after 54 laps completed.

In the Monster Energy Cup Series, Timmy Hill piloted the #66 Rewards.com Toyota for the final time in 2018. The Port Tobacco, Maryland driver qualified in 38th at a speed of 161.609 MPH, securing his 21st premier series start of the season. The most starts Hill had made in any previous single season was 19 in 2013, driving the #32 Ford for Frank Stoddard.

The 25-year-old took the checkered flag on track in a Cup race for the first time since Richmond in September. He finished 37th after racing Obaika Racing's #97 car, driven by Tanner Berryhill, for much of the event. Crucially though, the result marked the first time MBM's in-house engine program has powered a car that reached the finish of a Cup race on track.

MBM is already deep in preparation for the 2019 NASCAR season. The team is in the process of converting all of their steel-bodied machines to the new composite bodies, which includes upgrading to the new Supra model Toyota is introducing in the Xfinity Series in 2019. As of now, MBM is preparing to field three Xfinity cars and two Monster Energy Cup cars at Daytona in February, contingent on sponsorship.

►11/11/2018 - Phoenix Post-Race Report

Two drivers made their NASCAR Xfinity Series debuts at ISM Raceway for MBM Motorsports.

Tyler Hill, younger brother of regular MBM driver Timmy Hill, drove the #13 CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge in his first NASCAR national touring series start. The 24-year-old broke on to the national racing scene earlier this year by driving for Andy Hillenburg in four ARCA Racing Series events, earning Top 15 finishes in all four starts and scoring a tremendous 7th place result in the season finale at Kansas. At Phoenix, Hill qualified 31st, extending the #13 team's streak of qualifying into the race on time (Top 33) to three consecutive races and four of the last five. In the race itself, Hill suffered a spin off of Turn 2 of the newly reconfigured ISM Raceway, just past two-thirds race distance, and made light contact with the inside backstretch retaining wall. The MBM crew got the tires replaced and Hill soldiered on to take the checkered flag on track in 31st, completing 185 laps. It is the first time in team history that the third MBM entry has been running at the finish and equals the best finish of the season for the #13, as Tyler matched brother Timmy Hill's result from Kansas last month.

The other MBM NASCAR Xfinity Series debutant at Phoenix was 45-year-old Akinori Ogata from Kanagawa, Japan. Ogata, who started his racing career in motocross, has seven NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts to his credit since 2014, including two at Phoenix. Ogata was also able to qualify for his first Xfinity Series race on time, placing the #66 SEAVC Toyota 33rd on the grid with a speed of 125.274 MPH. Like the #13, this team has also now qualified for four of the last five Xfinity races on time by being in the fastest 33. Ogata ran into trouble from the very start of the race, spinning in Turn 1 on lap 1 and damaging the left rear of his Toyota. The crew successfully effected repairs to the car within the parameters of NASCAR's six minute crash clock as a part of the Damaged Vehicle Policy, enabling Ogata to return to the track and garner lots of track time and experience he might have otherwise lost after the early incident. Ogata made improvements as the race wore on, running a more consistent line, and after completing 179 laps, wound up 33rd in the final rundown. The #66 team now has five consecutive Top 35 finishes.

series starts have come at Phoenix.

Rookie of the Year contender Chad Finchum looked poised to lead the MBM contingent through most of the weekend in his #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota. At this track in March, Finchum qualified 36th and struggled for pace through the race. But with a full-time Xfinity campaign nearly complete, the Knoxville, Tennessee native showed the huge strides he and the #40 team have taken by reaching Round 2 of qualifying for the second consecutive race. With a lap of 127.882 MPH in Round 2, Finchum earned the 22nd starting position for the Whelen Trusted to Perform 200. Unfortunately, the race result did not reflect this major step forward in performance, as in Stage 3, the rear end gear came apart, leaking fluid and forcing a premature retirement. The #40 finished in 37th.

In the Monster Energy Cup Series, the #66 Rewards.com Toyota was able to still compete at Phoenix despite the sealed engine ruling last week in Texas. At Daytona during Speedweeks, the #66 officially competed as Phoenix Air Racing, and since MBM Motorsports cannot make another Cup attempt until they acquire a sealed engine, team owner Carl Long entered the #66 at Phoenix under the Phoenix Air name. It is Phoenix Air's second official attempt of 2018, and Open teams are not required to run a sealed engine until their third event. This plan means the owner points the #66 acquired at the Daytona 500 and this weekend at Phoenix do not count towards the same total as the MBM Motorsports #66, but it did provide a solution allowing Timmy Hill to compete in both of the final two Cup events of 2018.

On the racetrack, Hill put down a 131.114 MPH lap to earn 37th place on the starting grid, the best grid position for the #66 since Richmond in September. His race was only 40 laps old though when the 25-year-old had to retire the Toyota after a significant oil leak. Hill was classified 39th.

All three national NASCAR touring series conclude their championships in one week's time at the high degradation, 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway in south Florida.

►11/04/2018 - Texas Post-Race Report

Chad Finchum scored his third career Top 20 finish in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the Texas Motor Speedway in his second visit to the 1.5-mile quad-oval.

MBM qualified three cars into the field for the O'Reilly Auto Parts 300. Finchum drove the #40 Smihtbilt Homes Toyota into Round 2 of qualifying for the first time in his career with a lap of 181.965 MPH. In the second round, he improved even further to 182.784 MPH, earning the 19th position on the starting grid. In his 36 previous Xfinity starts, Finchum's best grid spot was 26th (twice, Texas I and Dover II this season).

Follow Chad Finchum on Twitter @ChadFinchum.

Timmy Hill qualified the #13 Toyota in 27th at a speed of 180.048 MPH. It marked the fourth consecutive race that Hill has qualified an MBM Xfinity car in the Top 30, and the sixth such time in his last seven races.

Bobby Dale Earnhardt secured a drive in the #66 Toyota midweek, and earned P35 on the grid in his Copeland Insurance Agency / HABCO Toyota. Earnhardt qualified for his fourth Xfinity race, though already his third start at an intermediate track.

Like and Follow Bobby Dale Earnhardt on Facebook.

The #66 was involved in the second caution flag of the event. Earnhardt and Stephen Leicht in the #99 Chevrolet made contact at the exit of Turn 4, sending Earnhardt through the infield grass. The team seemed to avoid any damage at the time of the incident, but by Stage 3, a right front wheel bearing failed, which caused the right front tire to blow and sent Earnhardt into the outside Turn 2 retaining wall. The #66 suffered too much damage to continue and wound up 34th in the final results. Hill in the #13 was just behind the #66 and the #99 when they made contact early in the race, and with some solid evasive driving, dodged any involvement in the spin. The #13 finished 35th.

But the MBM banner at Texas was carried by the #40 team, as Finchum finished the 300-mile event in 17th. Fresh off his 16th place result at Kansas, Finchum has now scored back-to-back Top 20's for the first time in his Xfinity Series career.

In the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, 41 cars arrived at Texas to compete for the 40 available starting positions. Timmy Hill practiced the #66 Rewards.com Toyota at 184.231 MPH, more than four tenths of a second faster than the #97 Obaika Racing car, one of the other Open teams Hill would have been competing against to make the field.

Hill never got the chance. Team owner Carl Long was called to the NASCAR hauler prior to Cup qualifying regarding the engine being used by the #66 team at Texas, and the end result was that the #66 team was not allowed to take part in qualifying, leaving the team as the lone DNQ for the AAA Texas 500.

NASCAR has rules about sealed engine usage, which differ between part-time and full-time Cup competitors, but the intention across the board is to save the teams money by reducing the number of allowed complete engine teardowns and rebuilds. The #66 team's predicament has been complicated by all of the engine failures for the team in recent events, with one powerplant being lost in Dover, two in Kansas, and the one from Martinsville being rendered unusable by the fire. The NASCAR rules mandate that the #66 team must run a sealed engine in their next event, but the team does not have one presently available due to all of those issues in their last three race weekends. NASCAR refused to grant the team an exemption due to extenuating circumstances, and so MBM's only option to compete in Cup for the remainder of 2018 is to rent one from another team or manufacturer.

Long posted on his team Facebook page that this ruling has forced MBM to end its Cup ambitions for the year prematurely, as the costs to rent a sealed engine are prohibitive to the #66 participating in either of the last two events. However, the team is actively working on a solution to try to compete in the final two Cup races of the season, so stay tuned!

►10/29/2018 - Martinsville Post-Race Report

Timmy Hill finished 38th on an all too eventful day for MBM Motorsports at Martinsville, as now just three races remain in the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season.

The Cup cars practiced and qualified at the 0.526-mile on Saturday. Hill was 39th quick in Practice 1, 36th fastest in Practice 2, and originally qualified 37th at a time of 20.432 seconds, nearly five tenths quicker than his best practice lap, an incredible pickup on such a short circuit. However, the result would not stand. Post-qualifying and pre-race technical inspection were combined and held Sunday morning, and the #66 failed twice, causing NASCAR to disallow their qualifying speed and eject one crew member, according to the normal procedure outlined in the NASCAR rulebook. Hill was in good company as he and seven other drivers lost their original starting spots; thus they filled spots 33-40 on the grid based on owner points.

The First Data 500 was going relatively to plan through Stage 1. The #66 team decided to take a wave-around, along with several other lapped cars, to get one lap back from the leaders as the caution from Stage 2 concluded. This strategy was dependent on a natural caution occurring sometime in the first half of Stage 2, but the yellow never came, so Hill was forced to bring the #66 Rewards.com for fuel and other normal pit procedures under green. His race was further hampered when the jack got caught underneath the car as he left the pit box, dragging the jack all the way around the track and forcing another pit stop. Then, when the crew came over the wall to remove the jack, NASCAR deemed that a crew member was "over the wall too soon," triggering a penalty and yet another trip to pit road.

After losing several laps through this process while the rest of the field continued at racing speed, Hill returned to the track, with a Top 35 finish still easily achievable. But more bad fortune was in store for MBM in Stage 3. As Hill hit the brakes coming to pit road just past lap 380, a bolt that held the fuel rail down on the injectors broke, and fire erupted in major way in the engine bay, with flames pouring out of both front wheel wells. Hill stopped the car as quickly as he could, unbuckled, and leaped from the car quickly. Thankfully the driver suffered no injury in the fire, but the day was done for the #66.

►10/22/2018 - Kansas Post-Race Report

An impressive weekend in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for MBM Motorsports at Kansas Speedway unfortunately did not translate over to the Monster Energy Cup car on Sunday.

43 Xfinity teams arrived in Kansas City to attempt to qualify for the Kansas Lottery 300, competing for 40 available starting spots. MBM had three drivers entered in the event: #40 Chad Finchum, #66 Bobby Dale Earnhardt, and #13 Timmy Hill. Finchum drove the same chassis used in the last Xfinity race at Dover, and Hill, after two race weekends aboard the #66, returned to the #13 car and the chassis that the team used at both Richmond and Dover.

The new name for the weekend, Bobby Dale Earnhardt, the eldest grandchild of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and older brother of current Monster Energy Cup driver Jeffrey Earnhardt, was seeking his first Xfinity Series start of 2018, but he did attempt three races with MBM in 2017. Earnhardt is a former full-time MBM employee, whose roles included pit stop tire changer and shop crew member. He qualified for the September Richmond and October Kansas Xfinity races in 2017, coming from 40th starting spot both times and achieving a best result of 31st.

In the Friday practices, the #13 and #40 cars set Top 30 fastest speeds in both sessions. Finchum led the MBM trio in Practice 1 at 170.191 MPH, 28th quickest, and Hill carried the team in Practice 2, placing 26th at 172.112 MPH.

Follow Chad Finchum on Twitter @ChadFinchum.

Qualifying on Saturday morning went superbly, as for just the third time in team history, MBM qualified three cars in the Top 33, crucial because making that cutoff guarantees each car a starting position in the race on their qualifying time. Hill stepped it up to a 174.791 MPH lap in qualifying, fast enough for 25th, and missed advancing to Round 2 by a scant 7 hundredths of a second. Hill has now earned Top 25 starting spots in three of the last five races, his first such steak since a stretch from Iowa to Road America in the first half of 2012, back when he was driving the #41 Ford for Rick Ware Racing.

Earnhardt, in the #66 Copeland Insurance Agency / HABCO Inc. Toyota, picked up more than 1.3 seconds from his best practice lap to earn 30th on the grid, his first Top 30 start in Xfinity and easily his best series starting spot to date. Finchum, in the #40 Smithbilt Homes / Lucky D's BBQ Toyota, also made the Top 33 on his qualifying run. Combined with his 26th place starting spot in the last event at Dover, Finchum had his first back-to-back Top 33 qualifying effort since Bristol and Richmond in April.

Follow Bobby Dale Earnhardt on Twitter @BobbyEarnhardt.

Stage 1 of the 300-mile race finished with all three MBM Motorsports drivers still on the lead lap and all three running in the Top 25. Finchum was up in 18th in his #40, and through Stage 2 the Knoxville, Tennessee native continued to gain positions, running well inside the Top 15 for much of the second half of the race. A late pitstop to secure a loose lugnut prevented Finchum from breaking his previous career best finish, but even despite this, the #40 Toyota took the checkered flag in 16th. The result is the 24-year-old's best finish on a non-restrictor plate track, a five position improvement over his previous best at New Hampshire. It is Finchum's second career Top 20 and seventh Top 25 through 36 series starts.

Follow Chad Finchum on Twitter @ChadFinchum.

The second MBM entry was running just outside the Top 20 through the early part of Stage 3, up until the fuel pump cable broke. Bobby Dale Earnhardt had to retire the car short of the finish, but his run was still rewarded with a career best result in P27. That also matches Hill's P27 in the #66 last week for the best finish for that car since Tim Cowen placed 26th at Mid-Ohio back in August.

For the #13, Hill went to the garage early in Stage 2 after 54 laps. High attrition early in the race however enabled him to finish the race in 31st, a four position improvement over the previous best result for that car number in 2018.

In the Monster Energy Cup garage, the MBM team had a nightmare weekend in the engine department. Timmy Hill put the #66 Ternio Toyota in the field in qualifying, 40th fastest at a speed of 177.708 MPH. Following Saturday practice, the team had to change engines, but the available backup engine was not an identical unit, meaning it was not a like-for-like swap. The team did manage to get the backup engine installed prior to the race, but a malfunction in the water pump system on lap 1 of the race dumped all the fluid out of the engine. By lap 4, the engine quit after being severely overheated. With just three laps complete, the #66 finished in 40th.

Next up for MBM Motorsports will be the Monster Energy Cup Series race at Martinsville, with Hill returning to drive the #66 Rewards.com Toyota. He will be seeking his fourth Cup start at the "Paperclip."

►10/07/2018 - Dover Post-Race Report

NASCAR's top two divisions made their second race weekend trip of 2018 to Dover International Speedway to compete on the 1-mile concrete oval in Dover, Delaware. MBM Motorsports entered three Xfinity cars in the Bar Harbor 200 and one Monster Energy Cup car in the Gander Outdoors 400 across the weekend.

Full-time Xfinity Series driver Chad Finchum qualified his #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota in the best position of the MBM teammates. With moisture delaying the session, only one, 15-minute round of qualifying was held. Once cars did hit the track, Finchum laid down a lap time of 23.914 seconds, quick enough to earn 26th on the grid and more than half a second faster than his best Friday practice lap.

Timmy Hill returned to the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge and only one ran lap of practice in that machine but still managed to post a speed in the Top 25. Hill also ran some practice laps in the #13 Toyota, helping out MBM team owner Carl Long get up to speed and improve the car's stability on corner entry.

In qualifying, Hill got his Dodge in the Top 33 by just over three tenths of a second. His 29th spot on the grid marked the first time since Atlanta and Las Vegas, the second and third races of the season, respectively, that the #66 crew has qualified in the Top 30 in back-to-back races.

Despite leading the team in qualifying speed, Finchum and the #40 crew were unable to convert their speed into a representative race result. Approaching the end of Stage 1, the #40 Toyota broke a right rear shock and forced the Knoxville, Tennessee driver to the garage. Once behind the wall, the team also found a truck arm issue, and so the required repairs were more extensive than initially thought. MBM got the car back on track later in the race, but more mechanical problems persisted that ended the team's consecutive finishing streak at six. Finchum was classified 34th in the final rundown of his 35th Xfinity Series start.

Hill ran the full race in the #66 and wound up 27th at the checkered flag. That finish is his best Xfinity result since the Daytona July race and marks his fifth Top 30 of 2018.

Long started his seventh Xfinity race of the season, though his first in the #13 car, from 37th. He ran 59 laps before retiring with suspension issues. He finished 36th.

As for the Cup car, a pop-up rain shower on Friday afternoon forced the cancellation of qualifying, and the #66 would be lined up 38th for the start based on Open team entrant points. By taking the green flag on Sunday, Timmy Hill would be starting his 80th Monster Energy Cup Series race. MBM also welcomed Ternio back on the car as the primary sponsor of the #66 for the third straight event and fourth race overall.

Regrettably, Hill's run in the Cup race this week was cut short early in Stage 1 when the input shaft to the transmission came apart, forcing the Ternio machine to the garage after just 35 laps. Hill finished 39th.

►10/01/2018 - Charlotte Roval Post-Race Report

The highly anticipated debut of the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval in NASCAR's 2018 Playoffs for both the Monster Energy Cup Series and the Xfinity Series produced plenty of drama across the entire race weekend.

The Xfinity drivers raced the Drive for the Cure 200 on Saturday afternoon. After Friday practice, primary MBM Xfinity driver Chad Finchum called the Charlotte Roval his "favorite road course yet." The Knoxville, Tennessee native said the circuit was intense, intimidating, but he "loved it" and was looking forward to raceday.

Follow Chad Finchum on Twitter @ChadFinchum.

MBM Motorsports brought three entries to the track despite 41 cars attempting to earn one of the 40 available starting spots. Timmy Hill waited until late in Round 1 to make his qualifying run, and the 25-year-old turned a 80.643 second lap in his #66 LeithCars.com Toyota. This event marked the North Carolina automotive dealership's first foray into primary NASCAR sponsorship, and Hill rewarded them with the best starting spot, 24th, for the #66 Xfinity car since the Charlotte event in May, 17 races ago.

Finchum in the #40 Smithbilt Homes car, running a Dodge for the first time in 2018 and only time since the 2017 Indianapolis race, time trialed 37th, picking up a full three seconds from his best practice lap.

The third MBM entry experienced several driver changes across the weekend as the team tried to assure themselves a spot in the race. Both Hill and team owner Carl Long took the #13 car out on Thursday during the open practices to establish a baseline setup for the car, and the plan was for John Jackson to practice the car on Friday and attempt to qualify it. However, Jackson spun exiting Turn 1 in the first Friday session, and the team was running out of available tires and time to get up to speed prior to qualifying. The team decided to put Cedar Rapids, Iowa native Landon Cassill in the car, a veteran of 400 starts between the Cup and Xfinity Series entering the weekend. Cassill went out in final practice and promptly picked up more than 1.5 seconds from the car's best lap to that point in the weekend. That performance earned him the seat for qualifying and gave the team their best chance to crack the Top 33 that make the race on their time trial speed.

Round 1 qualifying endured multiple red flag periods, ruining the laps of several drivers who were on track at the time when other cars suffered crashes. Twice the #13 Dodge was on track trying to post a time when the session was halted, wearing the tires undesirably. Cassill regrouped and completed a lap at 81.813 seconds, 31st fastest but more than 1.6 seconds clear of 33rd and 2.6 seconds than his best practice lap. Qualifying for the race gave Cassill his first NASCAR national touring series start in a Dodge and his first Xfinity start for a team other than JD Motorsports since Daytona in February 2011. It was also the best start for the #13 car since Bristol in August.

Photo Credit: NascarLowBudgetTeams via Twitter @low_teams

Stage 1 of the race was very successful for the MBM team. All three cars completed it on the lead lap, with Hill running the entire stage in the Top 25 and taking the green and white checkered flag in 19th. Cassill also completed the stage in the Top 25.

By Stage 3, it was Finchum leading the MBM contingent. The #40 Dodge finished all 55 laps of the race and placed 28th, Finchum's second best road course finish to date behind only his 22nd at Road America. The 24-year-old has finished on the lead lap in his last three consecutive road course stops, a major accomplishment for someone who grew up with a short track background and minimal road course experience. The #40 is now on a streak of six consecutive races in which they were running at the finish and have picked up Top 30 results in eight of the last nine races.

Follow Chad Finchum on Twitter @ChadFinchum.

For Hill and the #66 LeithCars.com team, their race was hampered by lingering brake issues that had been plaguing the car for much of the weekend. The team had to go to the garage in Stage 3 for a few laps, but they did return to the track and finished the event five laps behind the leaders in 32nd. That is Hill's best result since his spectacular 7th place run at Daytona in July. Cassill in the #13 Dodge retired at the conclusion of Stage 2 and finished 38th.

The Monster Energy Cup race, especially in the final laps, was easily the most chaotic of the two races on the Roval. Unfortunately, the #66 Ternio Toyota was not in a position to take advantage of the attrition this week. Hill started the race from 40th and almost immediately reported that the engine was turning too many RPMs off throttle. The team replaced the throttle return springs that push the gas pedal back when the driver's foot is not on the accelerator. Then when back on track, the axle stripped the drive plate in the left rear, and the team had to go the garage and replace both components. They returned to the track 14 laps behind and completed 70 of the event's 109 laps before the same issue reoccurred, forcing the team to retire the car. Hill wound up 38th, equaling the result from his only previous Cup road course start at Watkins Glen in 2015 for Premium Motorsports.

Next up for the top two division of NASCAR will be the "Monster Mile" at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware.

►09/23/2018 - Richmond Post-Race Report

The newly renovated and rebranded Richmond Raceway played host to both the Monster Energy Cup and Xfinity series teams for a weekend of short track racing action under the lights.

Chad Finchum carried the MBM Motorsports banner in the Go Bowling 250 on Friday night, one day before his 24th birthday. After qualifying 34th, Finchum drove his #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota into the Top 30. In the April race at this track, Finchum finished in 34th, 12 laps off the leaders. He was much more competitive throughout the race this time around, finishing the event just five laps behind, showing some of the progression the team has made from earlier in the season.

Finchum wound up 26th in the final rundown. That finish gives the Knoxville, Tennessee driver three consecutive Top 26 finishes. The team is certainly developing greater consistency, as Finchum has now finished in the Top 30 in seven of his last eight races. That consistency has also been significant in the owner points championship, as the #40 overtook the JP Motorsports #45 this week, having chased that team in the points through the last several months.

MBM fielded two other cars in the Xfinity Series race. Team owner Carl Long piloted the same #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge he ran in his last event at Darlington to a 36th place result in his sixth race of 2018. Timmy Hill slid back over to the #13 Toyota after a week in the #66 at Las Vegas. Richmond was the site of the race debut for this chassis, after the team brought it to Indianapolis but was sent home without turning a lap due to the persistent rainfall. Hill was 23rd fastest in Practice 1, demonstrating the potential in this car for future events. The driver qualified it in 35th and ended up finishing 38th.

In the Federated Auto Parts 400, Hill returned to drive the #66 Toyota, the sixth consecutive Cup event that MBM raced, the longest streak in team history in the premier series. MBM welcomed back the primary sponsor that debuted with the #66 team at Indianapolis two weeks ago, Ternio, for their second race weekend on a Cup car. This was the first attempt for the MBM Cup team at this circuit, and they earned the 37th starting spot with a qualifying speed of 116.989 MPH.

The 25-year-old Port Tobacco, Maryland driver soldiered on through the 400-lap affair, taking the checkered flag on track in 39th. While the result was not spectacular, this was the second straight race the Cup team has been running at the race's conclusion, the first time since another two-race stretch for the team at Kentucky and Pocono several races ago.

Next weekend, the NASCAR stars will take on an entirely new challenge, with the first race for both the Cup and Xfinity series teams on the Charlotte Motor Speedway "Roval." The course will incorporate most of the oval track, with chicanes added on the oval backstretch and off of oval Turn 4, in addition to a significant infield portion for the drivers to negotiate.

►09/17/2018 - Las Vegas Post-Race Report

Despite having severely limited turnaround time following NASCAR's doubleheader on Monday at Indianapolis, MBM Motorsports made it to the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway armed with a team record five entries competing in a single stock car race weekend.

Chad Finchum led the MBM banner in his #40 Smithbilt Homes / LasVegas.net Toyota in the Xfinity Series. The Knoxville, Tennessee native qualified 29th, his best starting spot since the second Iowa race, seven races before. The DC Solar 300 was packed with drama and on-track incidents, and Finchum dodged the wrecks to come home 25th. The result marks his second consecutive Top 25 finish and third in the last four races. This race weekend was the fourth event of the season that Finchum both qualified and finished in the Top 30, and the first time he achieved this on an intermediate track.

MBM had three other Xfinity cars competing at Las Vegas. Timmy Hill qualified the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge in 25th, just one position shy of advancing to Round 2 of qualifying, and his best starting spot since making the second round at Charlotte back in May. Hill would finish the race 34th, his best result since the remarkable 7th place finish at Daytona in July.

Entering both the #13 and #72 cars at Las Vegas, in addition to the two full-time teams, ensured this would be the first time in team history that MBM ran four Xfinity cars in a single race. Stan Mullis, a Las Vegas native, made his first national series start at his home track and first on an intermediate. He started the #13 LasVegas.net Toyota from 40th after not taking a lap in qualifying and finished 37th. John Jackson ran the fourth MBM car, the #72 CrashClaimsR.Us Toyota, carrying the same Benny Parsons-tribute scheme that the team used at Darlington. Jackson qualified 32nd, achieving his best starting spot since 2016 at Talladega, and finished the race in 38th.

On the Cup side, Timmy Hill drove the Darrell Waltrip-inspired tribute car for the second race weekend after the scheme's initial run in Darlington. The #66 Rewards.com Toyota started from the 39th position, but Hill was forced to the garage early with his car stuck in gear. The crew made repairs, and Hill returned to the track several laps down, able to take the checkered flag on track for the first time since Bristol. The #66 finished 33rd.

The top two NASCAR series head next to Richmond, Virginia for the return of short track competition, after three consecutive weeks of intermediate and larger tracks.

►09/11/2018 - Indianapolis Post-Race Report

Three straight days of precipitation at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway forced a rare doubleheader, on a Monday no less, for the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Monster Energy Cup Series.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon dumped considerable rain across the Midwest for several consecutive days. Both series had all practice and qualifying sessions cancelled, and both races were postponed until Monday. This meant no track activity for any car in either series prior to each respective race.

MBM Motorsports had brought four cars to compete at the Brickyard, but with qualifying washed out, the #13 Xfinity car that Timmy Hill was supposed to drive in the Lilly Diabetes 250 was sent home without turning a lap.

The #13 scheduled to run at Indy was a new car for MBM.

Chad Finchum ran a strong race in his #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota, easily the most competitive of the MBM cars at Indy this year. After starting 36th based on owner points, the Knoxville, Tennessee native drove his way up through the field, taking advantage of the high attrition seen throughout the race to pick up more positions. He was even running near the Top 10 late in Stage 1. Finchum ended up two laps off the leaders at the finish, including one lost on pit road. The team needed to make a camber adjustment to ensure the right front tire would not wear to the point of failure and elevate the risk of a crash. Multiple teams experienced similar issues with no track time prior to the race itself.

Follow Chad Finchum on Twitter @ChadFinchum.

Despite the loss of an extra lap in the pits, Finchum raced hard and took the checkered flag in P21, matching his second-best Xfinity Series finish in his 31st series start. The result is his fifth Top 25, and remarkably, all five have come in the 23-year-old's last 14 starts, including two of the last three races.

Rejoining MBM at Indy, driving the #66 Dodge, was 20-year-old Brandon Hightower. From Natchitoches, Louisiana, Hightower got his start in the national touring series of NASCAR by competing with MBM in seven Xfinity races late in 2016. At Daytona in 2017, he equaled MBM's best-ever race finish, scoring P13 despite being caught up in a crash coming through the trioval on the last lap. After starting races for JP Motorsports and JD Motorsports earlier in 2018, the Brickyard would be the site of Hightower's first start with MBM this season.

Monday was Hightower's 19th Xfinity Series start, but his race ended prematurely when he was racing with Vinnie Miller, driver of the JD Motorsports #01, midway through Stage 1. Miller was on in the inside entering Turn 1, with Hightower on the outside. The #66 washed up the track and the driver spun the car to stay off the outside retaining wall, but in doing so he slid down the track and made contact with a barrier on the inside of the track between Turns 1 and 2. Hightower was able to make a couple of more circuits but retired shortly thereafter and finished 37th.

Later in the day, the MBM Monster Energy Cup team returned to race at the site of their still incredible 14th place, lead lap finish that Timmy Hill drove to for his career-best last year. In 2018, the team came to Indy with yet another new partner on board, Ternio, a provider of highly scalable blockchain technology and framework.

Hill started the #66 Toyota from 39th due to qualifying being rained out. The Port Tobacco, Maryland driver was unable to finish the race on track, heading to the garage after 124 of the race's 160 laps with a fuel pump failure. He finished 35th.

Due to the postponed races, all of NASCAR's underfunded teams are being stretched incredibly thin, with a tight schedule to get back to the shop, turn cars around, and arrive at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway by early Friday morning for hauler parking. MBM is planning to run the Cup car and three Xfinity cars again, so the crew will be working flat-out to make it to Las Vegas on time.

►09/03/2018 - Darlington Post-Race Report

The Labor Day weekend NASCAR races from Darlington Raceway proved to be a grueling endeavor for the MBM Motorsports teams in both the Monster Energy Cup Series and the Xfinity Series.

Timmy Hill piloted two of the team's four entries, including the #66 Rewards.com Toyota in the Bojangles' Southern 500. The car carried the same colors that three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Darrell Waltrip ran in the majority of his final two seasons of Cup competition, driving the #66 Ford for Travis Carter.

Hill picked up the pace in every session leading up to the race. From his best first practice lap, he improved more than two tenths of a second in Practice 2. In qualifying, he picked up nearly seven tenths more, putting the throwback car in the show in 36th, at a speed of 163.822 MPH.

For much of the race, Hill and MBM were racing the two-car teams of Rick Ware Racing and StarCom Racing. With only three caution flags in the first 310 laps of the race (including two for Stage breaks), every team was forced to make multiple green flag pit stops. The #66 group was working towards a Top 35 finish when the engine went down a cylinder midway through Stage 3, and Hill was forced to go to the garage before the checkered flag. His 75th premier series start would end in a 37th place finish.

On the Xfinity side, Hill got to drive the Benny Parsons tribute car, #72, in an MBM partnership with James Carter. He was the best qualified MBM Xfinity car, timing in 27th at 161.529 MPH. Team owner Carl Long piloted the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge to a 34th starting spot, and full-time Rookie of the Year contender Chad Finchum would start the race from 37th in his #40.

The VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200 was the first race this season that Finchum drove a Chevrolet. The team had originally planned to bring the Toyota from Bristol to Darlington, but repairs are still being made to it after suffering significant crash damage late in the race. The Chevy has one of the older steel bodies, and consequently carries an extra 150 pounds of weight than do all the composite bodied cars. The good news is that Finchum will have a composite car available for Indianapolis next week. But in the meantime, the team had to get through Darlington with an older vehicle.

The #40 took the green flag for the race with Finchum driving, but the car quickly corded the right front tire and picked up a large vibration. The driver thought something was broken in the front suspension, and the team went behind the wall to make repairs. By this point, Hill had dropped out in the #72 car, and so to get a second opinion on the car's handling, he was sent out in the #40 to finish the race and try to improve the drivability of the Chevrolet. The #40 did take the checkered flag on track and finished 32nd. Because Finchum started the race, he will receive the driver points for the effort. Long's #66 ended up 33rd after completing 67 laps, and Hill's #72 finished 35th after 54 laps.

►08/29/2018 - Darlington Pre-Race Report

MBM Motorsports is planning to bring the now usual contingent of four teams (one Monster Energy Cup and three Xfinity) to Darlington, South Carolina for NASCAR's annual throwback weekend at the classic 1.366-mile Darlington Raceway.

Timmy Hill, 25, is set to pilot the #66 Rewards.com Toyota in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series' Bojangles' Southern 500. 40 premier series teams are entered, so unlike the team's most recent attempt at Bristol, there will be no intensive pressure placed on qualifying, as all Open cars will be guaranteed a starting spot in Sunday night's race. Hill is seeking his 75th Cup series start, his 15th with MBM, this weekend.

MBM raced in the Cup series at Darlington last year. Carl Long started the race, participating in his second points event of the season, before Hill took over driving duties mid-race. The two accomplished a 33rd place finish, driving the green and yellow scheme the #66 carried through most of last season. Those colors reflected the Romeo Guest Construction sponsorship Long had in 2009, but this year the team will fully participate in the throwback nature of the weekend with a tribute to the 1999-2000 Winston Cup #66 car that Darrell Waltrip drove in his final Cup races for Travis Carter.

Rewards.com and the RWRD tokens are back on the
#66 after their first outing with the team at Michigan.

On the Xfinity side, Hill will also have the honor of carrying a throwback scheme in honor of the late Benny Parsons, a 2017 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee. Parsons was a 21-time Cup series winner, including taking victory in the 1975 Daytona 500, and won the 1973 premier series championship. Many fans will also fondly remember "BP" for his work on NASCAR television, serving as a booth analyst for networks such as NBC and TNT. MBM will be running a scheme commemorating the #72 L.G. Dewitt-owned cars that Parsons campaigned through most of the 1970's.

Hill will drive the third MBM Xfinity entry that has started seven races this season as the #13. With a renewed partnership for MBM with James Carter, the team will compete this weekend with the #72 aboard the car to complete the tribute.

In addition, full-time driver Chad Finchum returns to the #40 Toyota and team owner Carl Long jumps back aboard the #66 Dodge. Finchum will be making his 30th career Xfinity start, and Long will be seeking his fifth start of the 2018 season.

41 cars are presently on the entry list for the VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200, so one car and driver will fail to qualify as of this writing.

►08/26/2018 - Road America Post-Race Report

Three MBM Motorsports cars tackled the monstrous 14-turn, 4.048-mile road course behemoth in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin known as Road America.

In Friday afternoon practice, Timmy Hill was the quickest MBM driver at a lap time of 2:18.326, placing 28th in the #13 Dodge. Chad Finchum made 11 laps in his first on-track session at the circuit and placed 35th quickest. MBM team owner Carl Long also got on track in the #66 Dodge but did not complete a lap at speed prior to qualifying.

The MBM team picked up sponsorship for qualifying and the race on Saturday from the Kimberly, Wisconsin-branch of Allstate Insurance. Logos were added to the quarterpanels of Finchum's #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota and to both the hood and the quarterpanels of Long's #66 prior to track activity on Saturday.

In qualifying, Hill was again the fastest of the three MBM teammates, making the Top 33 and getting in the race on speed. Finchum placed 36th and Long would roll off the starting grid 40th.

The action throughout the 45-lap event came fast and furious for MBM. Long had the throttle stick entering Turn 12, known as Canada Corner, in the first few laps of the race. He spun the car around and managed to stay out of the gravel trap and the barriers, but the car got stuck in fourth gear and would not restart. The #66 went to the garage for repairs, and later returned to the race several laps down. Inside the final ten laps, the engine quit, preventing Long from reaching the checkered flag. He ended up 32nd, matching his best finish of the season that he posted just one week ago at Bristol.

Meanwhile, Finchum was able to keep the #40 car clean and scored his second consecutive road course lead lap finish. The 22nd place result he achieved is his best finish since placing 21st at New Hampshire Motor Speedway five races ago. Finchum has now racked up four Top 25 finishes this season, including three in the last eight races.

For Hill, the Port Tobacco, Maryland native showed strong pace in Stage 1, but dealt with his brakes overheating excessively. He retired the car just past half-distance in the race and wound up 35th, the third time this season the #13 has been classified in that position in its seven starts in 2018 to date.

►08/19/2018 - Bristol Post-Race Report

The MBM Motorsports Monster Energy Cup team bounced back in a big way this weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway.

Timmy Hill drove one of five non-chartered cars entered in the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at the 0.533-mile concrete oval. Only four spots are available to Open teams in any given Cup event, so one car and driver would fail to qualify. One year ago at this event, Hill missed the race, the only time MBM has failed to qualify for a Cup race to date. The Friday afternoon practices indicated the battle to get in the field would be tight. If the field was set by Practice 1 speeds, Hill would have been out by just 6 hundredths of a second. But if they lined up based on Practice 2 speeds, he would have qualified by 7 hundredths.

The difficulty of making the race was complicated further by changing track conditions during qualifying. Drivers set faster and faster lap times as the session wore on as track grip improved, meaning the verdict of who made the race would be undetermined until the final seconds. After all the Open cars had made their first runs, Hill was the slowest of the five at a time of 16.127 seconds and had to improve to qualify.

On his 12th and final lap of the session, Hill stepped it up to a time of 15.882 seconds, which jumped him up above three other Open cars on the time sheet. All three of those drivers made another run before the session ended though, and #7 J.J. Yeley did jump over Hill late in the going. But #99 Gray Gaulding and #52 B.J. McLeod could not find enough speed to surpass the #66, and Hill clung on and made the starting field. The margin? 27 thousandths of a second for Hill, and Gaulding beat McLeod for the final position by 10 thousandths.

Beef Jerky Outlet joined the MBM team at Bristol, serving as the primary sponsor on the #66 Toyota. In addition to getting their car in the race, Hill delivered them a 28th place finish, the best result for the MBM Cup program since the 2018 Daytona 500. It is also the 25-year-old driver's personal best since his incredible 14th place at Indianapolis last season.

The Xfinity MBM teams did not share the same success that the Cup car did. The team brought three cars to Bristol, with the focus on the #40 Smithbilt Homes / The Preserve Toyota for Knoxville, Tennessee native Chad Finchum. The car showed strong speed in practice, placing 23rd quick in the first session and 24th fastest in Practice 2. The 23-year-old qualified 30th, best of the MBM teammates and only 14 hundredths of a second from making Round 2 of qualifying.

of the MBM cars in qualifying.

Finchum's competitive running in the race was cut short when a brake like broke, forcing the team to the garage in the early going. The crew got the car back on track several laps down. With the attrition of other cars, Finchum had worked himself back into the Top 30, when Josh Williams in the #90 DGM Racing car suddenly slowed coming off of Turn 2. Unsighted, Finchum ran up on the back of Williams at full speed and had two options to choose from in a split second decision: either run straight into the back of the #90 or turn hard left and spin. Naturally, he spun his car to miss Williams, but in doing so pounded the inside wall. Finchum walked away, but left Bristol bitterly disappointed with the finish and a wrecked racecar.

The #40 car was classified 30th, extending Finchum's race results streak to three consecutive Top 30 finishes, but that is small consolation in comparison to the difficulty the team faced in the Food City 300.

Both of the team's other two cars went to the garage before the checkered flag. MBM team owner Carl Long drove the #66 TLC Resorts / LasVegas.net Chevrolet, making his third start of 2018. Long qualified 36th and ran through the first two stages of the race before retiring early in Stage 3. He finished 33rd, the best of his three races this year. That is Long's best finish since the first Bristol race in 2017, where he was running at the finish in 27th.

►08/15/2018 - Michigan and Mid-Ohio Post-Race Report

For the second time in three race weekends, MBM Motorsports competed at two separate venues on the same weekend in the top two divisions of NASCAR, fielding an impressive total of four cars for the team.

In the Monster Energy Cup Series, MBM partnered with another organization, Rick Ware Racing, to field a Chevrolet for Timmy Hill in the Consumers Energy 400 at Michigan. The group welcomed another new sponsor on board, Rewards.com, and debuted a lively color scheme that featured the company's RWRD tokens.

Hill qualified at a speed of 185.648 MPH, fast enough to earn the 37th starting spot. The team was not able to complete the race though due to an electrical failure, likely caused by the loss of the battery. Fans who watched the race will recall the sizable chunk of debris that Ty Dillon struck at the end of the backstretch that punctured the oil cooler on his #13 and initiated his incident. Video shown on Monday on NBCSN's program NASCAR America appears to show the battery coming loose from the #66. Hill wound up 37th in the final rundown.

At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, MBM had three cars racing in the Rock N Roll Tequila 170. The full-time driver of the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota, Chad Finchum, made his second-career Xfinity Series road course start. Tim Cowen returned to MBM for his sixth start with the team and third at his home track of Mid-Ohio, driving the #66 Cowen Logistics Ford. MBM also ran the #13 Dodge for journeyman driver John Jackson in his second start of 2018.

Of the three, Cowen had the best qualifying run, timing in with a lap of 1:29.154 and making the Top 33, which means he qualified for the race on his speed and avoided having to use a provisional. Saturday was Cowen's eighth Xfinity Series appearance, and his sixth at Mid-Ohio. He has attempted every Xfinity held at the track, dating back to the inaugural event in 2013, qualifying for his first race in 2014 and making the field every year since. 33rd on the grid on Saturday was Cowen's best since that first Mid-Ohio start.

The 59-year-old Cowen only had 10 practice laps on Friday to reacclimate himself with the Xfinity Series car, and thus many of the setup adjustments the team wanted to test had to be shelved. The team used the first half of the race to improve the handling of the car with several setup adjustments, and Cowen was as fast as he had been all race at the end of the event. At the end of the 75 laps, Cowen crossed the line on the lead lap in 26th, earning his third career lead lap finish and second at this track.

All the MBM cars came home with minimal damage, but there were a few close calls. Coming from 36th on the grid, Chad Finchum drove his #40 Toyota up through the field. He dodged the spun #60 of Chase Briscoe on one of the restarts, taking to the grass to avoid the stationary car. On the last lap, he was racing teammate Cowen for the 26th spot, and while running side-by-side, Finchum hit a curb at a bad angle and spun. The Knoxville, Tennessee driver did get back across the line in 29th, achieving just his third lead lap finish in the Xfinity Series and 13th Top 30.

John Jackson ran 23 laps before retiring with transmission issues, driving the same chassis that ran as the #66 at Watkins Glen the previous week. He finished 35th, a one position improvement over his result from his first start of the 2018 season at Chicagoland.

►08/04/2018 - Watkins Glen Post-Race Report

Both MBM Motorsports cars qualified into the NASCAR Xfinity Series race from Watkins Glen International, on a weekend in which the teams had to overcome no dry practice time prior to qualifications.

Timmy Hill, driving the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge, made the field on speed, guaranteeing himself a spot in the starting lineup. Hill made the Top 33 by more than 1.3 seconds. This race, the Zippo 200 at the Glen, marked Hill's 150th start in the Xfinity Series, and the second consecutive year in which the Port Tobacco, Maryland driver qualified an MBM Dodge into the field on speed.

Chad Finchum qualified his #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota in 35th, turning an identical lap time to Stephen Leicht. Finchum equaling Leicht's lap time ensured that the Knoxville, Tennessee native would qualify for the race on a provisional.

The race itself featured a dry start, heavy rain in the early portion of Stage 2, and then the return of sunshine to the Finger Lakes region of New York. The track dried quickly under a red flag to repair the tire barrier in Turn 1, and the field went back to slicks for the balance of the event.

Finchum was under power at the finish, gaining lots of experience that he can apply in the season's remaining road course races. His race result was compromised on the pace laps however, as the driver reported effectively no brakes just after the cars rolled off pit road. The MBM team went to the garage to bleed the brakes, returning to the circuit 7 laps down. The #40 team was able to take advantage of some attrition and wound up 29th in the final running order, Finchum's 12th Top 30 in his 26th career series start.

Hill took the #66 car to the garage when the rain arrived at the circuit, finishing 36th.

The next stop for the Xfinity Series comes at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, the second consecutive road course race for the series.

►08/03/2018 - Watkins Glen Pre-Race Update

After a lot of mid-week entry list shuffling, 41 cars will compete for 40 starting spots in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Zippo 200 at the Glen.

MBM Motorsports has two teams entered. Chad Finchum, driving the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota, is seeking his first start on a road course in the Xfinity Series. Timmy Hill, piloting the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge, has three previous Xfinity Series starts at Watkins Glen, as well as two series starts at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and three series starts at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Only 15 cars took to the track on Friday practice due to the wet track conditions, but both MBM cars went out in the second and final session. Hill was 4th quick and Finchum was 7th quick, both competing two laps.

►08/03/2018 - Pocono and Iowa Post-Race Report

For the first time in team history, MBM Motorsports competed at two different major NASCAR events on the same race weekend. Timmy Hill drove the #66 Lehigh Valley Phantoms Toyota at Pocono in the Monster Energy Cup Series, and MBM fielded two cars in Newton, Iowa in the Xfinity Series.

On the Cup side, Hill qualified at a speed of 164.678 MPH, nearly 4 MPH faster than his best practice lap. The speed earned Hill the 27th starting position after 13 Cup teams had their time trial speeds disallowed for failing post-qualifying inspection. While aided by the inspection failures of the other cars, the 27th place grid slot marked Hill's career best starting spot for a premier series race, improving over a previous best of 32nd at Talladega in 2015 for Premium Motorsports. It was also the best grid position for MBM's Cup team to date, besting a 33rd at Texas in November 2017 with driver David Starr.

The 25-year-old was driving chassis number 819, the first race for that car this season. With limited practice time, the team struggled to hit a comfortable setup. The handling at the start of the race was off far enough that the driver thought there may have been a part broken in the front end, so the #66 crew went behind the wall to diagnose the issue further. By the end of the race, the car had improved significantly, but the time in the garage had prevented a higher finishing position. Hill took the checkered flag on track, finishing 36th.

At Iowa Speedway for the Xfinity Series, Stan Mullis returned to the #66 TLC Resorts / LasVegas.net Chevrolet, partnering MBM's full-time driver, Chad Finchum, in the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota. Finchum qualified for the race on speed and placed 29th, matching his starting position at this track from earlier in the season. Mullis, in his third series start, qualified 37th, a one position improvement over his previous best.

MBM entered the U.S. Cellular 250 with great optimism. Finchum was running a new composite chassis, and through practice, the team found more speed in the car than the one he drove to a 26th place finish at this track back in June. His race on Saturday was brought to a premature end, however. A brake mounting bracket came loose from the rear end of the car, allowing the left rear brake caliper to drag the wheel and create excessive heat. Under the caution for a spin by Vinnie Miller, the field worked around the track at reduced speed, significantly reducing the amount of airflow over the car. The heat grew rapidly at that stage and started a fire just behind the driver's seat. Video of the incident can be found below, courtesy of NBC Sports Network.

Finchum got out uninjured, but the interior of the car is ruined and some of the composite body is damaged. The team was planning to take this car to Bristol in a few weeks.

Mullis, in the other MBM car, ran out of fuel around lap 110 and lost several laps while the crew got the car restarted. He soldiered on to the finish and took 33rd, equaling his result from this track earlier in 2018.

►07/22/2018 - New Hampshire Post-Race Report

Chad Finchum scored his best career finish to date on a non-restrictor plate track in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday.

The Knoxville, Tennessee driver qualified his #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota in 34th, running eight laps in Round 1 of qualifying, two more than any other driver. After missing practice time on Friday, the team and driver opted for the additional track time provided by the 15 minute session.

The first two stages of the race were strong from the #40 team. Finchum took the green flag for Stage 3 on the lead lap and ran competitively throughout. With just 23 laps to go, he and Garrett Smithley, driving the #0 for JD Motorsports, made contact entering Turn 1. The #40 Toyota spun around and cut down the left front tire in the incident. Finchum hustled his machine back to pit road, and the MBM crew replaced the flat and effected repairs quickly, so as not to lose an additional lap, saving the team several spots in the final rundown.

At the checkered flag, Finchum came home 21st, just one spot away from his second Top 20 in three weeks. The finish is the 23-year-old's third career Top 25, all having come in 2018. Finchum has now moved up to 32nd in driver points.

MBM Motorsports qualified a total of three cars into the Lakes Region 200. Timmy Hill made the Top 33 on speed in the #13 Toyota, and team owner Carl Long put the #66 Chevrolet in the field in 38th. Both of those cars raced through the conclusion of Stage 1 and pulled off in Stage 2.

►07/20/2018 - New Hampshire Pre-Race Update

MBM Motorsports will seek to start three NASCAR Xfinity Series cars at the 1-mile New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend. Chad Finchum continues his full-season program in the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota, and regular driver Timmy Hill slides over to the third MBM entry, the #13 Toyota. Team owner Carl Long will drive for only the second time in 2018, his first attempt since Dover, in the #66 Chevrolet.

The series held two practices on Friday, and Hill was the quickest MBM car in final practice at a speed of 121.667 MPH. Finchum was 35th fastest but brought out a red flag in the session when he stopped on the backstretch. The team changed carburetors, among other adjustments, to get the car ready for raceday. Long completed 9 laps in his Chevrolet and was 37th quickest.

►07/20/2018 - Kentucky Post-Race Report

MBM Motorsports looked to ride their wave of momentum into Kentucky Speedway, fresh off one of the best weekend-long performances in team history at the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway.

Timmy Hill returned to the seat of the #66 Monster Energy Cup car, welcoming sponsorship from Jason Appleton's Crypto Crow, a new crypto currency. The team missed setting a time in qualifying after failing NASCAR's Optical Scanning Station in the rear end by a scant 15 thousandths of an inch. Coming from 39th and shotgun on the field for the Quaker State 400, Hill drove the Crypto Crow Toyota to a 34th place finish. Taking the checkered flag on track was a nice way to bounce back for the team after MBM suffered a DNF at Chicago in their last Cup event.

The Xfinity Series ran their 300 miler on Friday evening. Hill qualified the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge in 29th. The Port Tobacco, Maryland native has qualified in the Top 30 in all six 1.5-mile track races so far in the 2018 Xfinity season and for the fifth time in a Dodge. Hill retired from the race after 55 laps with fuel pump issues.

Chad Finchum spent all of practice in race trim and qualified his car 35th. The #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota was dialed in for the race. The Knoxville, Tennessee driver spent most of his night in the Top 30 and was in contention for another Top 25 finish before the transmission gave out less than 30 laps from the end of the race. Finchum was classified 31st in the final rundown.

Next up for the NASCAR Xfinity Series is the "The Magic Mile" at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

►07/13/2018 - Daytona Post-Race Report

The NASCAR Xfinity Series treated MBM Motorsports to one of the greatest weekends in team history over the July Daytona weekend.

Two practice sessions were held on Thursday. Timmy Hill, driving the #66 VSI Racing Toyota, practiced 10th quickest in the opening session, and Chad Finchum, focusing on single-car runs, placed his #40 Amana Heating & Air Conditioning / CrashClaimsR.Us Toyota 31st fastest of the 37 cars that ran.

In the late afternoon practice, with rain approaching the speedway, most teams opted not to practice. However, both Finchum and Hill took their Toyotas out together and continued working on drafting practice. They shot to the top of the leaderboard and remained there for the duration of the session. Finchum led final practice with a speed of 185.567 MPH and Hill followed close behind in second place with a speed of 185.540 MPH. It marked the first time an MBM Motorsports car finished an official NASCAR Xfinity Series session on top, and the first 1-2 finish for the team in any official NASCAR sanctioned session.

Drafting each other, the MBM drivers went 1-2 in Final Practice.

Qualifying was supposed to commence on Friday afternoon as the first official track activity of the day, but heavy rains came over the 2.5-mile oval and washed out time trials. Based on owner points, Finchum would line up 35th on the grid and Hill would take the start from 36th.

Both MBM Toyotas on the frontsretch at Daytona.

The race was scheduled for 100 laps but ran to 105. Several multi-car crashes occurred, and the MBM boys used some slick reactions to dodge the worst of each incident and bring both cars home largely in one piece.

Timmy Hill scored an incredible 7th place finish for the #66 team. In his 147th Xfinity Series race, Hill equaled his best ever Xfinity finish, achieved his third series Top 10 (first since 2012), and fourth ever NASCAR Top 10 (first since 2013). He improved his best series finish with the MBM team by a full 10 positions (bettering 17th at Talladega and Iowa in 2017). The result earned the team their first ever Top 10 finish, improving on a previous best of 13th with Alon Day at Mid-Ohio in 2016 and Brandon Hightower at Daytona in 2017, both in the #40 car. The previous best result for the #66 team in 2018 was two 27th place finishes (Bristol and Talladega).

The right side of the #66 is clean after 105 racing laps.

For Finchum, his 22nd career Xfinity Series start and third restrictor-plate race delivered a career-best finish, the first Top 15 and Top 20 of his NASCAR national touring series career, with 14th place. It was his second career lead lap finish and first at a restrictor-plate track. Finchum's second Top 25 bettered his previous best result by a full 11 positions.

In addition to achieving the team's singe best ever result, the double Top 15 easily stands as the best ever two-car result in team history. MBM had a double Top 20 at Mid-Ohio in 2017 with Enrique Baca and Tim Cowen driving.

Finchum and Hill are now 34th and 35th in driver points, respectively. Both MBM cars jumped ahead of the #55 JP Motorsports team in the owner points with these results. Next up on the Xfinity schedule is the Alsco 300 at Kentucky Speedway, which will run Friday night, July 13, with television coverage on NBCSN.

►07/04/2018 - Daytona Pre-Race Report

MBM Motorsports heads to Daytona Beach, Florida for the final NASCAR Xfinity Series restrictor-plate race of the season with two teams.

Chad Finchum will be driving the #40 Amana / CrashClaimsR.Us Toyota in his third plate race in the series. He earned a 28th place finish at Daytona in February, a career-best to that point in his young career.

Chad Finchum qualified 36th and finished 28th in February.

Timmy Hill will race the #66 VSI Racing Toyota, seeking his sixth start in an Xfinity race at Daytona. Hill has a personal best at this track of 7th, two Top 10s, and all five finishes have been in the Top 25. In a partnership with VSI Racing this week, the same association for MBM as Talladega earlier this season, Hill will run a "stars and stripes" paint scheme on the #66 in honor of the 4th of July and American Independence Day.

Timmy Hill returns to the #66 for the first time since Michigan.

►07/02/2018 - Chicagoland Post-Race Report

All three NASCAR national touring series competed at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois over the weekend, and the drivers, teams, and fans were all faced with brutally hot weather conditions.

MBM Motorsports worked hard to field four cars across the top two division of NASCAR, including three Xfinity Series cars for the third time in 2018.

Timmy Hill pulled off another terrific lap in Round 1 of qualifying on the Xfinity side to comfortably make the Top 33 and therefore earn his spot on the grid on speed, with a margin greater than six tenths of a second. Rookie of the Year contender Chad Finchum qualified 34th in the #40 Toyota. The #66 team welcomed a former MBM driver back to the cockpit in John Jackson, in his first start of the 2018 season, and he qualified 38th quickest.

Finchum's 21st career Xfinity Series start did not go according to plan. The engine expired on his Smithbilt Homes Toyota before the end of Stage 1, giving the Knoxville, Tennessee driver his first DNF since Talladega. Jackson and Hill both dropped out of the race shortly thereafter with other mechanical gremlins, finishing 36th and 37th, respectively.

On the Monster Energy Cup side, Timmy Hill qualified the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Toyota at a speed of 167.567 MPH, limited by a super tight handling condition. The run ended up being fast enough for 35th on the grid when several other teams failed post-qualifying technical inspection. That spot marked a three-position improvement over MBM's only previous Cup start at this track, 38th in 2017.

In his 70th premier series start, Hill raced competitively through the first two stage, battling Kyle Weatherman, B.J. McLeod, and Reed Sorenson for much of the day. Early in Stage 3 though, the engine broke a piston and forced Hill to retire after 185 of the Overton's 400 267 laps. He was classified 39th in the final rundown.

►06/21/2018 - Iowa Post-Race Report

MBM Motorsports had a successful weekend in Newton, Iowa, as the NASCAR Xfinity Series took center stage in the stock car racing world, while the Monster Energy Cup teams had an off weekend.

Chad Finchum qualified in the Top 30 for the sixth time in 2018 at Iowa, and the Knoxville, Tennessee driver drove one of his most competitive races to date. Finchum was fighting well inside the Top 30 on legitimate pace for the majority of the race. But while running 24th in the late going, the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota cut down a right front tire and brought out the fourth caution flag of the race. The team was able to replace the tire and make a few quick repairs, but a sway bar arm heim joint was broken in the incident and the team had to just ride the rest of the race to reach the checkered flag.

Despite missing out on another potential career-best finish, Finchum can be proud of his 26th place, as it's his second-best Xfinity result to date and ninth Top 30 in only 20 career starts. It also extends the #40 team's streak to four consecutive Top 30 finishes.

Stan Mullis in the #66 TLC Resorts Vacation Club Chevrolet qualified 38th and finished 33rd. The team went to the garage area mid-race to repair a mechanical issue on the car, but Mullis made it two-for-two in his Xfinity Series career running at the finish.

All three MBM Motorsports cars received
air time on FOX Sports over the weekend.

MBM ran three Xfinity cars for only the second time in 2018, with regular driver of the #66 Timmy Hill sliding over to the #13. Hill qualified 35th and finished 37th, completing 75 laps before retiring with brake trouble.

Both the #40 and #66 teams picked up valuable owner points over their immediate competitors in the championship at Iowa. MBM will hope to continue those gains in the next Xfinity Series race in Chicagoland on June 30th.

►06/15/2018 - Iowa Pre-Race Report

MBM Motorsports will run three Xfinity cars for the second time in 2018, when the NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa this weekend.

Full-time driver Chad Finchum will be in the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota again, making his first Xfinity appearance at Iowa Speedway. Finchum brings a streak of three straight Top 30 finishes to Iowa.

Las Vegas native Stan Mullis, who made his first NASCAR national series start at Iowa one year ago for MBM, will rejoin the team this weekend for his second series race. Last season, Mullis had a clean and conservative run, improving seven positions over his starting spot to finish 32nd. Mullis will drive the #66 TLC Resorts Vacation Club Chevrolet this year.

Stan Mullis will attempt his second
Xfinity Series race in the #66.

The usual pilot of the #66, Timmy Hill, will slide over to the #13 OCR Gaz Bar Toyota, in the #13's second attempt this season. Hill has seven Xfinity races at Iowa under his belt, including two for MBM.

40 cars are entered for the 40 starting spots, so all cars will qualify.

►06/12/2018 - Michigan Post-Race Report

The high-downforce package raced by the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Michigan produced a very unique style of racing, especially noticeable in Stage 1 of the LTi Printing 250.

Rain stayed in the area of the Michigan International Speedway all weekend. Xfinity qualifying was rained out and the lineup was set according to the rulebook. Chad Finchum started the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota from 36th and Timmy Hill began his race from 37th in the #66 Dodge.

Chad Finchum earned his third straight Top 30 at Michigan.

Both MBM Motorsports cars proved competitive in the race, racing on the lead lap for most of the event. Pit strategy bit the team at the very end, as the rain returned at an inopportune time. Still, Finchum achieved a third-straight Top 30 finish, the second such streak of his young career. P29 is also a career-best on a 2-mile track, bettering his 36th place from Fontana earlier this season. Furthermore, Finchum achieved his first-career lead lap finish, in his third-best result of 2018.

Timmy Hill's P31 result was his
best finish at Michigan since 2012.

Hill also ran the full distance and lost a lap in the final stages, or it could have been a double lead-lap performance for the MBM team. The Port Tobacco, Maryland native came home 31st, driving the only Dodge in the field for the third consecutive race.

On the Monster Energy Cup side, Timmy Hill qualified the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Toyota in 38th. Rain delayed the start of the race on Sunday and shortened the race distance considerably. The team was able to take advantage of multiple caution flags, two free pass awards, and the wave around to remain on the lead lap at the end of Stage 1, and the #66 wound up only one lap off the leaders at the end of the event. Hill finished 35th, marking the third consecutive points race that the #66 has been running at the finish.

►06/06/2018 - Michigan Pre-Race Report

New track, same cars, same teams. MBM Motorsports will head to the 2-mile Michigan International Speedway this weekend for the second consecutive weekend of the NASCAR Xfinity Series racing with the high downforce package. MBM will use the same two chassis this weekend that the team used in Pocono.

Chad Finchum will make his 20th NASCAR Xfinity Series weekend appearance, seeking his 19th career start. He has not competed at Michigan previously, but did start the Fontana race earlier this season, another 2-mile oval.

Timmy Hill has three previous Xfinity starts at Michigan, two with Rick Ware Racing and the most recent with MBM. That start came just one year ago. Hill qualified and finished 39th in that event.

MBM is on a streak of three consecutive years with Top 30 finishes in this event. Josh Reaume drove the #13 car to a 29th place in 2015, Harrison Rhodes scored a 26th place result in the #13 in 2016, and Josh Bilicki earned a 29th place finish in 2017 in the #40.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series car will also be back on track this weekend for MBM, and Timmy Hill gets the driving duties once again. The #66 Toyota has had two 32nd place finishes in a row (Kansas and Charlotte). Hill has two prior premier series starts at Michigan, once in 2013 for Frank Stoddard and once in 2015 for Premium Motorsports.

►06/06/2018 - Pocono Post-Race Report

Both MBM Motorsports cars qualified for the Pocono Green 250 at the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway, despite just missing the Top 33. Each team, both the #40 and #66, picked up more than 1.5 seconds from their best practice lap on Friday, demonstrating the significant improvement the team made with changes to the cars overnight.

Timmy Hill, driver of the #66 Dodge, put up a 151.128 MPH lap, placing him 34th on the starting grid, and Chad Finchum, driver of the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota, qualified 35th at 150.524 MPH.

►05/31/2018 - Pocono Pre-Race Report

MBM Motorsports will be focusing on its two full-time NASCAR Xfinity Series teams this weekend in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. The 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway, often referred to as The Tricky Triangle, welcomes the Xfinity Series for just the third time in series history.

In the inaugural event in 2016, MBM qualified both of their cars in the Top 33, and T.J. Bell drove his #13 Dodge to a 32nd place result. Last season, Timmy Hill carried the banner for the team, qualifying and finishing in the Top 30.

In 2018, 41 cars are preliminary entered for the 40 available starting spots. MBM returns Chad Finchum and Timmy Hill to their cockpits this weekend for the 100-lap Pocono Green 250. The Xfinity Series will employ the high downforce package for the first time this season and the first of two consecutive race weekends, as the package will be repeated again the following week at Michigan.

►05/31/2018 - Charlotte Post-Race Report

Memorial Day weekend returned a bag of mixed results for the MBM Motorsports team at the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In the Monster Energy Cup Series, Timmy Hill qualified the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Toyota in 36th on scuffed tires. The Coca-Cola 600 is the longest Cup race on the schedule, and it therefore places high demands on every component on the car. The Toyota struggled on restarts but proved more competitive on long runs. Hill soldiered on for all 600 miles, and for the second consecutive Cup points race, he came home 32nd.

Timmy Hill finished 32nd in the 600, a one position
improvement over his 33rd place result in the
MBM Cup car at this track last October.

The Xfinity cars practiced on Thursday and then did not get back on track until qualifying on Saturday morning. Both MBM cars practiced inside the fastest 33: in the second and final practice, Hill was 29th quickest and Chad Finchum was 31st. However only one of the cars was able to replicate that speed in qualifying. Timmy Hill drove onto the track first in the 15-minute duration Round 1, and promptly posted a speed not only good enough for the Top 33 but was fast enough to make the Top 24 and Round 2 of qualifying for the third time in 2018.

FOX Sports 1 recognized this performance, not only because of the raw speed produced by the MBM team, but because it was accomplished in a steel body car, which is required to carry 150 more pounds of weight than any entry using a composite car. Footage of Timmy Hill's qualifying lap, which includes leaving distinct tire rubber on the track at the exit of Turn 2 plus an interview from Regan Smith, can be found below.

While the team celebrated the success of the #66, they also were forced to stomach the disappointment of their first DNQ of the season for the #40 car. Chad Finchum was unable to reach the Top 33 with the Toyota and did not have enough owner points accumulated to be awarded one of the seven points provisionals.

Chad Finchum on track during Thursday evening practice.

During the Xfinity race, the #66 was arguably the most competitive it had been in any intermediate track race this season. With the use of a free pass at the end of Stage 1, Hill was only one lap back of the leaders in the early going of Stage 3, racing several teams in the midfield completely on merit.

Late in the race, the track bar mount began to rip off the trailing arm, which destabilized the rear end of the car. The left rear tire started dragging and gave Hill a very uncomfortable sensation in the corners. The team repaired the car the best they could in the garage and salvaged a 30th place finish.

►05/24/2018 - Charlotte Pre-Race Report

Memorial Day weekend is almost upon us. Many racing fans around the world refer to this Sunday as the greatest day of the year for motorsports. May 27, 2018 is the scheduled date for the 76th Formula One Monaco Grand Prix, the Verizon IndyCar Series' 102nd Indianapolis 500, and NASCAR's longest race, the 59th Coca-Cola 600.

MBM Motorsports will field a car in the Coca-Cola 600 for the first time in team history, with Timmy Hill returning for the third consecutive race weekend to pilot the #66 Toyota. Hill has two previous starts in the 60; he finished 27th in 2013 and 29th in 2017. 40 cars are now shown on the entry list, after the withdrawal of the second Rick Ware Racing Chevrolet, so the team is locked into the field.

Meanwhile, the Xfinity Series entry list is the second-largest of the season, behind only the season-opening race at Daytona. With 43 cars competing for the 40 available starting spots, three teams will be forced to pack up after qualifying on Saturday morning. Recall that the Top 33 fastest drivers guarantee themselves a starting position after Round 1 of qualifying, and the balance of the field is then determined through NASCAR's provisional systems.

Follow Chad Finchum on Instagram @chadfinchum

After a lineup change at Dover, MBM will return to its usual two car Xfinity operation with Chad Finchum in the #40 and Timmy Hill in the #66. Finchum does have a start under his belt at Charlotte last October, starting 34th and finishing 29th. Hill has 11 previous Xfinity races at this track, including five for MBM.

►05/23/2018 - Charlotte All-Star Post-Race Report

Timmy Hill completed all 50 laps of the Monster Energy Open and finished 18th driving the #66 SentinelOne Toyota at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

This was the second All-Star race weekend for MBM Motorsports, though on-track activity was severely hampered by precipitation on Friday. Practice was almost entirely washed out, and qualifying for the Open was cancelled, with the lineup set according to car owner points. NASCAR decided to insert an additional practice period on Saturday morning to make up for the lost track time.

Hill ran a clean race and earned his best All-Star Open event finish to date with P18. He will back behind the wheel of an MBM Cup car for the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend.

Timmy Hill will pilot the #66 SentinelOne Toyota, his second ride in an MBM Cup car in 2018, fresh off a 32nd place result at Kansas. Hill does have one previous All-Star race weekend appearance, coming in the 2013 Sprint Showdown driving for Frank Stoddard in the #32 Ford.

The MBM #66 team did run the Monster Energy Open in 2017. Team owner Carl Long qualified 20th and finished 17th in the 24-car field. In 2018, 21 teams have entered the Open, the last chance qualifying event for the Monster Energy All-Star Race.

This specific #66 car is a different chassis from the one raced at Kansas, as NASCAR is running an experimental rules package for this race weekend. The new technical specifications include a restrictor plate, larger front splitter, larger spoiler, and large front aero ducts. These changes form a high downforce package meant to create similar effects to those of the high-downforce Xfinity cars at Indianapolis last season.

while driving a Toyota. Photo Credit: Jeremy Thompson.

The MBM Motorsports team came home 32nd, taking advantage of some late race attrition to achieve that position. The result is Hill's best Cup finish since his 14th at Indianapolis last July. It is also a one position improvement over the Toyota's previous race, when Chad Finchum drove the chassis to a 33rd at Bristol.

►05/10/2018 - Kansas Pre-Race Report

The MBM Motorsports Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series car will return to action this weekend at Kansas Speedway.

Timmy Hill has been selected as the driver of the #66 Toyota for Kansas. Hill has six previous starts at this track in the premier series, including a 22nd place finish in 2012 driving for Frank Stoddard. His most recent Cup race here came with Rick Ware Racing just last season, improving 11 positions over his starting spot to finish 28th.

Hill qualified for six Cup races with the MBM team in 2017, including three on 1.5-mile tracks. He also scored a phenomenal 14th place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last season in the #66.

This event marks the one-year anniversary of the debut of MBM Motorsports in the Monster Energy Cup Series. Carl Long made his long-awaited return to the driver's seat at Kansas last year for the first time since 2009. The team started 40th and improved to 31st in the race, Long's second-best career finish.

►05/06/2018 - Dover Post-Race Report

Chad Finchum drove the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota to his NASCAR Xfinity Series career-best finish, capturing a 25th for MBM Motorsports at the Dover International Speedway.

Dover is now Finchum's most experienced track, as three of his 17 Xfinity starts have been made on the one-mile concrete circuit.

Heading to Dover, MBM decided to enter three cars for the first time in 2018. 41 cars arrived at the track to compete for the 40 starting positions, and so MBM's third car, with no owner points to fall back on, had to qualify in the Top 33 in order to make the race. Timmy Hill, who had been driving the #66 through the first nine races of the year, was moved to the #13 car needing to qualify on time, and team owner Carl Long prepared himself to make his first start of 2018 in the #66.

Saturday morning qualifying was a stress-filled adventure for MBM. The #13 Toyota was still in the technical inspection line when Round 1 began, one of several teams that was on the border as to whether they would be able to make an on-track qualifying attempt before time expired. Fortunately, there was a red flag late in Round 1 for debris, and NASCAR halted the session clock. Those couple of extra minutes proved vital for MBM, as the team passed the new for 2018 Hawk-Eye Optical Scanning Station, Timmy Hill got buckled in, and the team was ready to take to the track as soon as the session resumed.

Hill starred in qualifying, reaching Round 2 of qualifying for the second time this season (though Round 2 was not held at Texas Motor Speedway due to inclement weather). The Port Tobacco, Maryland native earned 22nd on the grid for the race, bettering his previous best start at Dover by four positions (2012 with Rick Ware Racing) in his 13th Xfinity race at this track.

Chad Finchum qualified the Smithbilt Homes machine in 30th, marking his fifth Top 30 start of 2018 and a small improvement over his 31st place start in this event one year prior. Carl Long in the #66 Chris Kyle Memorial Benefit / CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge turned in the 32nd quickest time, ensuring all three MBM cars qualified for the OneMain Financial 200.

At the start of Stage 2, both Finchum and Hill were running on the lead lap. Finchum raced hard throughout the day and accomplished the directive of the old racing adage "beat the people you are supposed to beat." The 25th place result for the Knoxville, Tennessee native is a solid accomplishment the team can hope to build on in future races.

Hill came home 35th and Long was classified 39th. The Xfinity Series will now take a couple of weekends off before returning at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Memorial Day weekend in three weeks' time.

►04/29/2018 - Talladega Post-Race Report

Timmy Hill came home in 27th place in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Talladega Superspeedway for MBM Motorsports after running up front inside the final 35 laps of the race.

The Port Tobacco, Maryland driver started in 38th and remained on the lead lap deep into the race. In Stage 3, the team used pit strategy to run up at the front of the pack, and Hill raced in P4 from Lap 78 to 81, remaining in the Top 10 through Lap 93.

The #66 team ran the same chassis at Talladega that raced earlier in the season at Daytona as the #54 with Gray Gaulding driving. This was a deal completed between MBM and Michael Contarino of VSI Racing, whose logo rode on the hood of the Toyota throughout the weekend.

P27 matches Hill's best result of 2018 to date, a finish he also achieved at Bristol, two races before Talladega.

Chad Finchum in the MBM #40 Toyota started the Sparks Energy 300 in 36th. He raced in the lead draft early in the race but was caught up in a crash at the beginning of Stage 2. Finchum was classified 39th, one of five cars who exited the race in the incident.

►04/23/2018 - Talladega Pre-Race Report

For the next NASCAR Xfinity Series race, MBM Motorsports heads to Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR's largest oval at 2.66 miles in length and a definite wildcard event on the schedule.

#40 Chad Finchum and #66 Timmy Hill both have the potential for strong results if they can get qualified into the race. Last season, MBM qualified a total of five cars across the three restrictor-plate races and finished in the Top 30 all five times, including three Top 20 finishes. The #40 team brought home all three of those Top 20s in 2017. Brandon Hightower opened up the season with a career-best 13th place finish at Daytona in February driving a Toyota. Timmy Hill strapped into a Dodge for the other two restrictor-plate events and finished 17th both times.

Brandon Hightower earned a terrific 13th place finish
at Daytona in 2017 despite suffering a spin early in the race.

MBM will hope to demonstrate that same success this season, starting this weekend at Talladega. Earlier this season at Daytona, Chad Finchum made his first restrictor-plate race start and finished 28th. His shot at a more competitive finish was limited before the completion of Stage 1, when he cut a left rear tire and lost laps on pit road while the race remained under green flag conditions. Talladega provides the team an excellent chance to rebound and continue the momentum from taking the checkered flag on track at Richmond.

Qualifying will be televised live on FOX Sports 1 at 11:00 am ET. The 113-lap race from Talladega will air on FOX, with flag-to-flag coverage beginning at 3:00 pm ET.

►04/23/2018 - Richmond Post-Race Report

The NASCAR Xfinity Series put on a one day show at Richmond Raceway, capped by the running of the 2018 ToyotaCare 250, the second Dash 4 Cash of the season.

Chad Finchum made his fifteenth Xfinity series start on Friday night, driving the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota. He made the Top 33 in qualifying for the fourth consecutive race, a noteworthy achievement for the MBM Motorsports team. Despite fighting the handling of the racecar from the first practice, the team persevered through the race, and Finchum took the checkered flag on track for the first time since Atlanta in February. The Knoxville, Tennessee driver finished P34.

The team is optimistic that this week will be the beginning of a season turnaround. After taking a bit of an owners points hit following the Texas accident, the #40 has recovered up to 39th in the standings, now just five points behind the #55 JP Motorsports team.

The best showing for the #66 Chris Kyle Memorial Benefit / CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge at Richmond came in the opening practice session. Driver Timmy Hill put up a lap that placed him in the Top 25 by the end of the session. Hill qualified 39th and finished 36th, retiring from the race after 107 laps when the fuel pump cable broke.

Up next for the Xfinity tour is one of the season's biggest wildcards, the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway.

►04/16/2018 - Richmond Pre-Race Report

The MBM Motorsports team heads to Richmond Raceway for a Friday night NASCAR Xfinity Series race under the lights.

Chad Finchum will be looking to rebound from an engine failure at Bristol that ended a career-best run for the 23-year-old. Finchum had charged up through the field in Stage 1 of the race, capitalizing on his wealth of short track experience. He will look to apply that same knowledge this weekend at Richmond in his 15th Xfinity series start. Finchum has one K&N Pro Series East start at this circuit, driving for Jeff Spraker in 2012.

Timmy Hill will be seeking his 10th Xfinity start at Richmond Raceway, including his sixth with MBM (other four with Rick Ware Racing). Hill's best result in an MBM car at this track came at this event one year ago, when the Port Tobacco, Maryland driver scored a 28th place finish in the #40 #HelpSamBass Chevrolet.

MBM Motorsports honored the legendary
motorsports artist Sam Bass last season at Richmond.

40 cars are entered for the 40 available starting positions. Barring any post-entries, all teams will qualify for the race.

►04/16/2018 - Bristol Post-Race Report

Chad Finchum pulled double-duty for the first time in his young NASCAR career this weekend at "The Last Great Colosseum," the 0.533-mile Bristol Motor Speedway.

MBM Motorsports was very pleased to have several companies join the team at the track this weekend as sponsors on the racecars, including Food City, Concrete North Inc., and Smithbilt Homes. Finchum, a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, was excited to race at his home track driving his full-time Xfinity Series ride and making his first effort in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

For the second time in as many weeks, both MBM Motorsports Xfinity cars, piloted by Finchum and Timmy Hill, placed in the Top 30 in both Friday practice sessions. Each driver made the Top 33 in qualifying again as well, with Finchum qualifying 29th and Hill earning 31st on the grid.

Unfortunately, engine issues cropped up again on the #40 Toyota, relegating Finchum to a frustrating 36th place result. The 23-year-old was slicing his way through the field during Stage 1 and looked poised to claim his best Xfinity finish to date. Luckily, the series returns to another short track at Richmond Raceway next weekend.

Timmy Hill ran deep into the event and was racing competitively in the Top 25 in the early portions of Stage 3. The brakes were deteriorating on his #66 Chris Kyle Memorial Benefit / CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge as the race wore on, and the team decided to retire in order to keep the car in one piece. MBM will utilize this same chassis again at Richmond.

On the Cup side, Finchum only got 20 practice laps before his first qualifying effort in NASCAR's premier series. He placed his #66 Toyota 38th in the starting lineup and looked forward to raceday. The Cup race would be hampered by precipitation, forcing a postponement to Monday midway through Stage 2 of the event. Finchum held 31st overnight during the red flag and wound up 33rd in the final finishing order. He completed 335 laps in the race before heading to the garage with a broken track bar.

►04/09/2018 - Bristol Pre-Race Report

MBM Motorsports has a chance to rebound in a big way this coming weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway.

Chad Finchum will be pulling double duty, including making his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series debut at the legendary track dubbed "The World's Fastest Half-Mile." The team will be running a Toyota in their first race back in Cup since Mark Thompson's 22nd place finish at Daytona.

In addition, MBM will be proud to welcome a new sponsor to the sport, as Concrete North, Inc. of Elk Grove, California will adorn both of Finchum's cars, Cup and Xfinity. Tennessee-based company Smithbilt Homes continues their support of Finchum as well. The Knoxville, Tennessee native is set for an incredible weekend at his home track.

NASCAR's preliminary entry lists released on Monday show 39 premier series cars and 41 Xfinity Series cars headed to Bristol.

►04/09/2018 - Texas Post-Race Report

MBM Motorsports and the rest of the NASCAR Xfinity Series returned to racing after nearly three weeks away from the track by visiting the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway.

The team invested significant time and labor over the break to try to resolve the nagging engine issues that had hampered the two car Xfinity operation since the beginning of the season. With the batteries recharged after the "West Coast Swing," the team was able to diagnose and correct the gremlins. Then the focus turned towards extracting more speed and performance from the cars, with Texas being the third 1.5-mile intermediate-style track in the first six events.

The team's efforts were demonstrated and validated on Friday, as both MBM drivers, Chad Finchum and Timmy Hill, placed in the Top 30 in both practice sessions for the first time this season. Friday practice took place in the heat of the day on Friday afternoon, and the team would be greeted Saturday morning with vastly different temperatures for qualifying and the race. Many teams had to make significant chassis adjustments to keep up with the changing track conditions.

Saturday qualifying was plagued by long inspection lines, and with an entry list of 42 cars, several Xfinity teams, who ordinarily would not be concerned about qualifying for the race, suddenly were in danger of being sent home without getting an opportunity to post a lap time. Multiple red flags flew in Round 1 of qualifying, including for both on-track incidents and weather-related issues. Heavy mist shrouded the track throughout the session, and many teams waited until late in the session to post a lap time at speed.

Timmy Hill in the #66 Chris Kyle Memorial Benefit / CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge would be the first driver in the field to attack the Texas Motor Speedway during Round 1 of qualifying, and after feeling it out on his first lap, he posted a time six tenths of a second faster than his best practice lap to vault himself to the top of the board. Hill would go out later in the session and better his time again on his fifth and final lap, placing 23rd and set to advance to Round 2 of qualifying. Due to the weather conditions, NASCAR decided to cancel the remaining rounds of qualifying and set the starting lineup based on Round 1 results. The 23rd place start was Hill's personal best since Chicago in 2016.

The #66 Dodge already has two Top 25 qualifying runs in 2018.

Chad Finchum in the #40 Smithbilt Homes / TLC Resorts Vacation Club Toyota likewise improved his practice time by one-third of a second, and he secured himself a 26th place starting spot. Not only was 26th a personal-best on an intermediate track, it was an Xfinity Series career-best to date.

Unfortunately, yet again the race results will fail to demonstrate the competitiveness of the MBM Motorsports cars. Finchum spun on the second lap of the race after getting up out of the racing groove in Turn 1 but did a masterful job keeping his Toyota out of the wall. With no damage, Finchum was able to drive back to the pits, replace the tires, and on the ensuing restart he started working his way back up through the field.

Disaster would strike with 11 laps to go in Stage 2. Finchum was racing Alex Labbe in Mario Gosselin's #36 car, and after the pair made contact in Turns 3 and 4 on the previous lap, they made contact again in Turn 1, this time much more severely. Finchum was sent into the outside retaining wall at a high rate of speed. The impact destroyed the rear of the car and was violent enough to lift the left side tires of the #40 up into the air. The Knoxville, Tennessee driver climbed out of the car without assistance from the track safety team, uninjured in what Finchum described as "the hardest hit I have ever taken in a race car."

The final results from Texas place Chad Finchum in 34th and Timmy Hill in 36th.

►04/02/2018 - Texas Pre-Race Report

Chad Finchum will be seeking his sixth start on a 1.5-mile track in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway. The Knoxville, Tennessee driver now has 12 career starts to his credit, but this will be his first trip to this circuit.

Chad Finchum has a best Xfinity finish to date of 28th
(twice, 2017 Bristol and 2018 Daytona [pictured]).

Timmy Hill returns to the #66 in what will be his fifth trip to Texas driving for MBM Motorsports. Hill has four premier series starts and eight Xfinity starts (four with Rick Ware Racing and four with MBM) at this track. In fact, the Port Tobacco, Maryland native's first race with MBM came at Texas in April of 2015. Hill drove the #40 Chevrolet in both events at this track in 2017, placing 31st in April and 30th in November.

The #13 Dodge @TimmyHillRacer raced in his first start with MBM.

The preliminary entry list released by NASCAR on Monday shows 40 cars, but the entries of JP Motorsports are not yet listed. Strong qualifying performances will be imperative for the smaller Xfinity Series teams this weekend.

►03/17/2018 - Fontana Post-Race Report

Chad Finchum picked up his best ever career starting spot for the Roseanne 300 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.

The MBM Motorsports team showed strong form in practice, with Finchum placing his #40 Smithbilt Homes / TLC Resorts Vacation Club Toyota 25th in the first practice of the weekend. Timmy Hill, driving the #66 Chris Kyle Memorial Benefit / CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge, also demonstrated speed early on, placing 28th in the same session.

In the second and final practice, Finchum made a 10 consecutive lap run, focusing on how the handling characteristics of the car changed as the tires wore out and fuel burned off. After struggling a bit with the car's drivability in Phoenix last weekend, the team wanted to be sure the #40 would perform better over the course of a longer run in race setup this week.

Qualifying once again seemed to be the highlight of the MBM race weekend. Finchum delivered a superb lap, not only backing up his practice time, but recording a lap time eight tenths of a second faster than in practice. The lap speed of 172.476 miles per hour was quick enough for P28 on the grid. The starting spot was a best ever for Finchum in his 12th career start, bettering his 30th place start from two weeks ago at Las Vegas by two positions.

With the fast practice speeds and decent qualifying efforts, MBM entered the race with high hopes of achieving decent finishes for the two cars. Unfortunately, the engine gremlins would strike the #40 Toyota again, as the Knoxville, Tennessee driver broke a rocker arm before the halfway point in the race. Finchum wound up 36th. It marks the second consecutive weekend engine woes have put a premature stop to the 23-year-old's efforts.

Follow Chad Finchum on Twitter @ChadFinchum.

Timmy Hill ran a few laps deeper into the race but also was forced to retire before the halfway point; he finished 35th. With clutch problems on Mike Harmon's car in the early going of the event, the #66 MBM car is now three points ahead of the #74 in owner points, which could play a crucial role in determining provisionals at future events. The next stop on the NASCAR Xfinity Series tour will be at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway.

►03/13/2018 - Fontana Pre-Race Report

Chad Finchum and Timmy Hill will complete the NASCAR West Coast Swing driving for MBM Motorsports in the Xfinity Series. This week the series heads to the 2-mile Auto Club Speedway. After this race weekend, the Xfinity teams will have two weeks away from the race track, so everyone will be looking to end the first stretch of the season on a high note.

40 teams are entered for 40 spots, so again this week all entered cars will qualify for the starting field. The crucial owners points battle among the full-time teams, including the two MBM cars, the #45 JP Motorsports car, and the #74 Mike Harmon Racing car will continue again this weekend.

Chad Finchum will be making his 12th Xfinity Series start to date in the #40. This will be the Knoxville, Tennessee driver's first attempt at one of the couple of 2-mile ovals on the NASCAR circuit.

Timmy Hill has two Xfinity Series starts to his credit at this track. In his debut season of 2011, he started and finished 32nd here for Rick Ware Racing. Last year, driving the #13 Chevrolet for MBM, Hill brought home a superb lead lap finish, placing 30th. The 25-year-old is also running the Cup race this weekend for the Rick Ware #51 team.

►03/13/2018 - Phoenix Post-Race Report

ISM Raceway threw mixed weather conditions and a high degradation tires at the NASCAR Xfinity Series teams this weekend in Phoenix.

Chad Finchum in the #40 Angry Crab / Mohawk Market Toyota qualified 36th for the race, driving one of the new composite bodies. This was the same chassis that Carl Long started in the Phoenix race last November as the #13 and has carried a flashy green and yellow paint scheme in its two races so far.

Follow Chad Finchum on Twitter @ChadFinchum.

The team struggled with a severe tight condition all weekend. Unfortunately, the engine expired on the #40 shortly after the halfway point of the event. Finchum would be classified in 36th.

Timmy Hill managed a slightly better result in the #66 Chris Kyle Memorial Benefit / CrashClaimsR.Us Chevrolet, driving one of the traditional steel body cars. This particular chassis was also last raced at Phoenix at the end of 2017 with Hill behind the wheel. After qualifying 38th, Hill was able to overtake Mike Harmon's #74, a crucial position in the owners points battle. Hill soldiered on the finish and reached the checkered flag in 34th.

Follow Timmy Hill on Twitter @TimmyHillRacer.

The next stop on the NASCAR Xfinity Series calendar is at the 2-mile oval in Fontana, California.

►03/09/2018 - Phoenix Pre-Race Note

MBM Motorsports will again field Chad Finchum and Timmy Hill in its two car NASCAR Xfinity Series effort this weekend at ISM Raceway (formerly Phoenix International). 40 cars are on the grounds to compete for the 40 available starting positions, so all entered teams will make the race.

►03/03/2018 - Las Vegas Post-Race Report

MBM Motorsports had a banner day in qualifying for the Boyd Gaming 300 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS), but the team left the track with unrepresentative finishes after performing well in Stages 1 and 2 of the race.

Chad Finchum in the #40 Smithbilt Homes / TLC Resorts Vacation Club Toyota completed 20 laps in the final practice session on Friday afternoon, turning the 31st fastest lap of the 40 cars. Timmy Hill in the #66 Chris Kyle Memorial Benefit / CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge made a single lap in order to conserve tires for raceday, but he still managed to place 26th on the board.

The greatest success of the weekend for the team came in Round 1 of qualifying on Saturday morning. Hill earned his best-career start at LVMS with a lap time of 30.778 seconds, good enough for P25. The Port Tobacco, Maryland native was just 44 thousandths of a second away from advancing into Round 2 of qualifying. The starting spot was also Hill's best grid position since Chicago back in 2016, when he drove the #13 Toyota into Round 2 of qualifying and scored a P22 starting spot.

in the Xfinity Series since Chicago in 2016.

Finchum put up a solid lap as well, bettering his best practice time by more than five tenths of a second, and earning the 30th place grid position for the Boyd Gaming 300. The Knoxville, Tennessee driver earned his best career starting position to date, eclipsing his previous best start by one position (Dover I and Bristol II, 2017).

Follow Chad Finchum on Twitter @ChadFinchum.

The qualifying performance was not only record-setting for the drivers, but also marked a best-ever result for the MBM team. Previously, the best double qualifying result for MBM was at Richmond in 2015, when Hill placed the #13 car 27th and Carl Long qualified the #40 car in 31st. This weekend's efforts in Las Vegas thus mark the first time MBM has ever qualified two teams in the Top 30 for an Xfinity Series event.

Early on in the race, both teams were running respectably, with sizably improved pace from Atlanta just one week ago. Finchum was running well inside the Top 30 and racing several cars just one lap down near the end of Stage 1. Hill likewise was running hard and continued to work with his team to improve the long-run pace of the Dodge.

Chad Finchum raced in the Top 30 for the majority of Stage 1 and 2.

Unfortunately, both cars were forced to retire midway through Stage 3. Finchum wound up 32nd after completing 140 laps. The #40 Toyota suffered a broken ball joint and Finchum had no choice but to stop the car. Similarly, Hill retired with mechanical gremlins after running 134 laps and was classified 33rd. Leaving Las Vegas, Finchum stands 35th in driver points. Hill, despite missing the season opening race in Daytona, is shown in 39th.

Finchum finished his first Las Vegas race in 32nd.

One week remains in which provisional starting spots will be assigned based on 2017 car owner points. Heading to ISM Raceway (formerly Phoenix International) next weekend, the teams in the back half of the Xfinity garage will be battling hard for owner points positions to help secure their starting spots in future races. The MBM #40 team will be competing against the SS Green Light Racing #76 and RSS Racing #93 teams for owner points positions heading to Phoenix. The MBM #66 team is locked in a duel with both the JP Motorsports #45 and Mike Harmon Racing #74 teams. Much like the battle to be in the Top 35 in owners points in past seasons with the Top 35 rule, all of the teams listed above will know the importance of each and every point they can garner at this stage in the season.

►02/26/2018 - Las Vegas Pre-Race Report

The NASCAR Xfinity Series begins its "West Coast Swing" this weekend at the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway. MBM Motorsports will return to the track this weekend with two cars. Chad Finchum jumps back aboard the #40, and Timmy Hill will run the #66, the same driver lineup MBM has used at each race so far in 2018.

The Boyd Gaming 300 on Saturday will mark Finchum's tenth Xfinity series start and fifth on a 1.5-mile track. His best finish on this type of circuit to date has been 29th, which he achieved at both Kentucky and Charlotte last season. Finchum currently sits 33rd in the Drivers Point Standings after the first two events of 2018.

Timmy Hill has three premier series and two Xfinity series starts at Las Vegas, including his debut in what was then the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Last February, he pulled double duty in Las Vegas, driving the primary MBM Xfinity #40 on Saturday and Rick Ware Racing's #51 Cup car on Sunday. Hill's best Xfinity finish at this track came in 2011, when he placed 24th in just his second ever series start. His best Xfinity qualifying position at Las Vegas came last season driving for MBM, when Hill made the Top 33 on speed to guarantee himself a spot in the race.

This weekend, 41 cars are preliminarily entered for the 40 available starting spots. Provisionals will continue to be based on 2017 car owner points for the first four events of the season.

►02/25/2018 - Atlanta Post-Race Report

MBM Motorsports got both of its Xfinity Series cars qualified into the Rinnai 250 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, but the team struggled to extract the same performance from its cars in the race.

Practice on Friday afternoon saw the team deliver promising speeds, with 23-year-old Chad Finchum placing 26th during the opening practice in his first laps around Atlanta. 24-year-old Timmy Hill led the MBM brigade in final practice, posting the 33rd quickest practice speed.

Qualifying would be a crucial performance test for the team for the second consecutive race weekend. 42 cars arrived at the circuit to compete for 40 available starting positions. To be guaranteed a starting spot in the race on speed, a driver must crack the Top 33 at the end of Round 1 of qualifying.

Chad Finchum in the #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota Camry wound up P34 at the end of Round 1, turning in a lap time of 32.033 seconds. The spot was his best starting position in an Xfinity race since Charlotte last fall, also P34.

Timmy Hill in the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Dodge Challenger turned in an excellent time at 31.716 seconds, placing him P29 on the grid and ensuring he would be in the race after the heartbreaking miss at Daytona last week. The result marked the best starting position for the second MBM car since Chicago last September, when Hill qualified in 28th.

Replicating the team's qualifying success in the race was always going to be an uphill battle, given the extra weight the team had to carry this weekend. In an effort to ensure the competitiveness of the new composite body Xfinity cars and incentivize teams to make the transition, all competitors utilizing the steel body must maintain a minimum weight 150 pounds heavier than the composite car requirement. That extra weight results in more severe tire wear, and consequently exacerbates any ill-handling a team might already be fighting. Both the #40 and #66 were traditional steel bodies at Atlanta.

Nevertheless, Finchum, Hill, and their respective crews all worked valiantly throughout the event to improve on their chassis setups. Both drivers took the checkered flag on track and recorded Top 35 finishes, with Hill in 34th and Finchum in 35th.

The Rinnai 250 was the first race since Mid-Ohio last season when both MBM cars were running at the finish. Finchum has now been running at the finish of his last four consecutive series starts, ensuring he continues to gain maximum on-track experience each week. Dating back to 2017, the primary MBM #40 car has taken the checkered flag on track for the last seven consecutive events.

The Xfinity Series heads west next weekend to the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

►02/21/2018 - Dodge Returns to Action

MBM Motorsports revealed their manufacturer choices for this weekend's Rinnai 250 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Chad Finchum will be running the same Toyota that he competed with in the 2017 season finale at Homestead-Miami, and Timmy Hill will be using the blue Dodge that ran several of the events late last year. On track activity is scheduled to begin on Friday.

►02/19/2018 - Atlanta Pre-Race Report

The second NASCAR Xfinity Series race of the 2018 championship takes place this weekend at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia. MBM Motorsports will look to qualify two cars into the Rinnai 250.

Chad Finchum will be driving the #40 car, fresh of his first restrictor-plate outing at Daytona. Finchum has three starts in the Xfinity Series on 1.5-mile tracks so far, finishing in the Top 30 in all three events to date. In all three races, Finchum improved multiple positions over his starting spot, going from 38th to 29th at Kentucky, 34th to 29th at Charlotte, and 36th to 30th at Homestead.

Chad Finchum has been running
at the finish in six of his last seven starts.

Timmy Hill is listed on the preliminary entry list as the driver of the second MBM car #66. The Port Tobacco, Maryland driver has three previous Xfinity starts to his credit at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, with a best start of 22nd in 2011 and a best finish of 33rd, both in 2012 and in 2017. His first two starts came with Rick Ware Racing, and his start last season was indeed with MBM in the primary #40 car. Hill was running at the finish last year in his CrashClaimsR.Us Toyota.

Currently, 43 cars are entered in the race. Provisionals will continue to be based on 2017 car owner points for the first four events of the season.

►02/19/2018 - Daytona Speedweeks Results

Mark Thompson scored the second best ever Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series finish for MBM Motorsports in the 60th Running of the Daytona 500.

After retiring from the second Can-Am Duel, Thompson officially qualified for the 500 on his time trial speed, placing the 66-year-old veteran in 40th position on the grid for the Great American Race. He would run a controlled race, dodge all the carnage, and brought the #66 Phoenix Air Ford Fusion home in 22nd place with only minor damage to the right side of the car.

The finish is bettered only by Timmy Hill's 14th place at Indianapolis last season and becomes the second Top 25 for MBM in Cup. The team's next best Cup finish to date has been 28th, twice last year.

In the Xfinity Series on Saturday, it was a day of mixed emotions. Chad Finchum started 36th in the race and was running to plan when he cut a left rear tire just before the conclusion of Stage 1. The #40 Smithbilt Homes Toyota lost several laps running around the apron of the track getting back to pit road and removing the shredded rubber in the pits. Finchum did a great job to minimize the damage and keep the car in one piece.

Late in the race, Finchum hung in the lead draft for extended periods of time and worked his way through the field, despite being off the lead lap, showing strong potential if he could just get his laps back. Unfortunately, the team had another late-race extended pit stop and was unable to capitalize on a rash of late yellows once other cars fell off the lead lap.

Despite all the carnage, the 23-year-old crossed the finish line in 28th place with virtually no damage. The result matched his career-best Xfinity Series finish at Bristol in 2017. It is Finchum's fifth Top 30 result in his eight series starts to date.

The heartbreak of the day occurred following the Xfinity qualifying session Saturday morning. Timmy Hill in the #66 CrashClaimsR.Us Toyota qualified at a speed of 181.788 miles per hour, falling less than three tenths of a second from the Top 33 that are guaranteed in the race on speed. But with other cars lower in owner points also unsuccessfully making the Top 33, the #66 should have been awarded the final provisional starting spot in the PowerShares QQQ 300, and when the first starting lineup was released, Hill was in the race.

However, in post-qualifying inspection, two cars who had made the Top 33 on speed failed tech. NASCAR disallowed their qualifying speeds, dropping them from the Top 33. This elevated the #52 and #54 cars into the field on speed, and when the provisionals were recalculated, Hill fell eighth on the list, one provisional spot short of making the race. With the reset grid, Hill was less than six hundredths of a second away from making the race on speed.

In addition to the incredible disappointment, this causes a major financial loss for the team. MBM Motorsports will attempt to rebound next weekend at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Serious sponsorship inquiries are welcomed by the team at contact@mbmmotorsports.com.

►02/13/2018 - Daytona Speedweeks Xfinity Series Drivers

The entry list for the season opening NASCAR Xfinity Series race has been released, featuring 46 cars set to attempt to qualify for the PowerShares QQQ 300 at Daytona International Speedway.

As previously announced, Chad Finchum is driving the #40 Toyota. It was announced recently that Smithbilt Homes would be rejoining Finchum's car with primary sponsorship. MBM Motorsports has acquired the owners points of the #48 Chip Ganassi Racing team from 2017, essentially locking Finchum into Saturday's season opener.

The second car this season will utilize the #66. For the first four races of the year, this team will make use of the points the #40 team accumulated in 2017. With a 46 car entry list, it will be marginal whether or not this car will have enough points for a Provisional starting spot, so to ensure the car gets in the field, the team will be working hard to make the Top 33 in qualifying.

Driving duties have been assigned to Port Tobacco, Maryland driver Timmy Hill. Now a staple of the MBM driving lineup, Hill has had tremendous success at Daytona in the Xfinity Series. In just five starts at the track, he has racked up three Top 12 finishes, four Top 20s, and four lead lap finishes. If he qualifies, Hill would be making his 133rd Xfinity Series start.

The #13 car will now become the third MBM entry. Although not competing in the season opening race weekend, look for the #13 to debut in a limited schedule early in the season.

►02/13/2018 - Daytona Speedweeks First Weekend Wrap Up

Mark Thompson qualified for the Great American race with a time trial speed of 186.463 miles per hour, the 37th fastest speed of the day. This was Thompson's fastest lap on track in the Cup car this weekend by more than six tenths of a second. The #66 Phoenix Air Ford has been slotted into Can-Am Duel Race #2, in which Thompson will roll off 18th.

Video of the Thompson's qualifying run is available below, with credit to FOX Sports.

In his ARCA Racing Series car, Thompson finished the final practice all the way up in the second position. Group qualifying did not work out quite as fortunately for the veteran driver, but he still managed to secure a Top 20 starting spot in P19 for his 100th career ARCA start.

Thompson dropped to the rear of the field prior to the green flag, hoping to avoid any potential early carnage. He took the green flag in P37, but quickly started maneuvering up through the field. For much of the middle and late stages in the race, Thompson had his #66 Ford solidly in the Top 10, racing for a Top 5 finishing position with the strongest cars in the field.

Unfortunately, several cars made contact in front of Thompson on what would have been the final lap of the event, and the #66 was swept into the accident with nowhere to go. All drivers escaped injury in the crash, but MBM's ARCA composite car is torn up after being collected in the crash. Thompson was classified P27 at the conclusion of the event. ►02/08/2018 - Daytona Speedweeks Underway

The ARCA Racing Series kicked off Daytona Speedweeks with a two hour long practice session this afternoon. Mark Thompson took the #66 Phoenix Air Ford around the Daytona International Speedway at 178.525 miles per hour, placing 24th on the speed chart. Final practice takes place Friday morning and will be followed by group qualifying at 3:30 pm EST to set the starting grid. The race on Saturday will be Thompson's 100th ARCA career series start.

The preliminary Daytona 500 entry list was released late Thursday afternoon and features 40 teams for the Great American Race. If no late entries are received, Thompson and the #66 MBM Motorsports team will be guaranteed into the Daytona 500 starting field.

►02/04/2018 - Daytona Speedweeks Preview

MBM Motorsports is excited to embark on another ambitious schedule across the top two divisions of NASCAR in 2018. Stock car fans anxiously await the first races of the season for all three NASCAR national touring series over the next two weeks at the "World Center of Racing," the 2.5-mile trioval that is the Daytona International Speedway.

After the successful debut of the #66 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team one season ago, MBM is excited to return for another partial schedule this season with the Cup team. In the Xfinity Series, MBM will field two full-time teams for the fourth consecutive season in 2018, with a third car running a limited schedule.

As for Speedweeks, MBM welcomes back 66-year-old Mark Thompson to drive car #66 in a bid to qualify for the 60th Daytona 500. The Vietnam War veteran and now CEO of his own company, Phoenix Air, will be attempting to make the 500 for the first time in more than 25 years.

attempt for the Daytona 500. Another driver would take
over the car for his Twin 125 and the team did not qualify.

Thompson's lone prior attempt to make the Daytona 500 came in 1992, when he time trialed a #62 Ford. Ben Hess took over driving duties in the Duel race, but involvement in an early crash prevented the team from making the 500.

Now in 2018, Thompson will once again run a Ford at Daytona. This chassis was purchased from Richard Petty Motorsports and will run under the MBM banner for the first time at Daytona.

As with last season, the #66 will be competing as an Open car, meaning Thompson is not guaranteed a position in the starting field. To ensure a spot on the 500 grid, he will have to be one of the two fastest Open cars in single-car time trials or be the highest finishing Open car not already in the field in his Thursday night Duel race. Check back for updates as Speedweeks develops.

In addition to his Cup ambitions, Thompson rejoins the MBM team for the ARCA Racing Series season opener at Daytona, the Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire. Thompson holds the distinction of being the oldest polesitter in ARCA history, scoring the first starting spot at Daytona in 2015.

Finchum will look to continue gaining experience
on all types of track configurations in 2018.

There are also big plans for the primary MBM Xfinity car in 2018. Knoxville, Tennessee native Chad Finchum is working on sponsorship efforts to compete in the full season driving car #40 for MBM. Finchum made seven starts last year with the team, finishing in the Top 30 four times, including a 28th place at Bristol in August. Daytona will mark Finchum's first restrictor-plate race, so the 23-year-old will be working hard to gain as much experience as he can on his first trip to Daytona. To read what Finchum is saying about his season outlook and expectations, visit his Facebook page or click here.

The MBM team will have at least one additional Xfinity car entered at Daytona. Check back in the coming days for updates.
